Long awaited holiday

Do I dare book a holiday for next year back to the Rockies ? Last year I had 3 heart attacks thankfully at the moment I feel good. Just get tired towards the end of the day. I have a meeting with a consultant in June to discuss an I C D fitting. However it is my dream to return to Canada what do you think ?

Dear Fieldhouse

Well its nice to be able to think about going back to your beloved Rockies and I’m sure that those thoughts are getting you through the problems that you still have, hence talking about having a Pacemaker fitted.

If you are having the Pacemaker your team will be able to tell you the recovery time.

As you have already guessed, your insurance company {travel} will have to be informed and brought up to date.

Good luck with it all and I really hope that you get that fantastic holiday.

Take care

Do it! Life is too short, we are doing a road trip July in Colorado, I have various illnesses and my husband has just recovered from bladder cancer and has a neo bladder op. It was a bucket list to do it on a Harley Davidson. Yes the insurance is through the roof but with staysure you can take out a yearly plan and pay monthly. If your consultant says yes, get it booked and start planning, it will be a great trip and something for you to lookforward to. Good luck 👍

Mmm, I’ve been some years ago. We drove miles and miles. I developed a terrible digestive problem, couldn’t go to no2’s no matter what 🙄. Hubs was worried I’d have to be airlifted to a hospital because were were miles from anywhere. ‘Luckily’??? All the ruddy medicines worked 😵‍💫

You need to plan where you’re going and how AND how you’d get medical treatment

Hi, that will definitely be the plan to have medical assistance close by.

We’ve been a few times. We wanted to go few years earlier but they had their centenary and looked like majority of accommodation was booked and then covid, next my PAF, the T2 diabetes 😳Hubs seems cautious about booking because of my issues 🙄

Hello :-)

If my Consultant and Doctor were quite happy for me to go away then I would go for it and enjoy it to !

Let us know if you do and how much you enjoyed it :-) x

I will certainly check with them first. In 2019 my husband had a stroke on Vancouver Island his care was first class ( more like private) and he is 99% back to normal.

in reply to Fieldhouse

I am so pleased he was well looked after :-)

I am sure you will be able to go and have a lovely time :-) x

Your medical team need to know your intention. I did something similar years ago but checked it out with my GP first. he told me there was a very good hospital close to where I would be and that seemed to be the thing he considered to be of importance.

I will certainly check with my cardiologist first and make sure I have good travel insurance.

Hi Fieldhouse, I booked my holiday to Canada and then subsequently was diagnosed with Heart failure. I thought I wouldn't be able to go, but spoke to my cardiologist and cardiac nurse, have made plans, it's cost a lot of money for the insurance but...... I am going, whoop whoop. So plan well, get good insurance, go steady (know your limitations and stick to them) and have a great time. There is nothing that the NHS can do that the Canadian health system can't do and it gives you a motive to keep going. Bye for now.

PS I just had an ICD fitted too.

I am so pleased for you. Sounds like your diagnosis might be just like mine. Totally agree with the care you receive in fact your are treat like a private patient ( which in fact you are ). From my previous visits I have met a lot of Canadians ( who are the most friendly people ) and yes they are as good as the NHS. Can I ask who are you insured with ?

I ended up going through a broker who was brilliant at helping us sort out the insurance. There was only one company that would insure me and that was "All Clear". The broker is Royton Insurance Services, the guy is called Bernie Coughlin they are on 0161 652 0225, I can thourough recommend him.

Dear Fieldhouse, I had a new heart valve fitted 10 weeks ago and am about to go on holiday in France. Lots of differing views on this forum, mine is France, like Canada, is medically very advanced (dare I say it, possibly better than the UK), so as long as you know of the nearby hospitals and you have the right insurance, GO FOR IT. Tragically I have attended 2 friends funerals so far this year, both of them under 60, so carpe diem! Enjoy the Rockies.

Lots of good replies on here and I see you are waiting until you've seen your Cardiologist which I think is wise but it all looks very promising so yes I think you can indeed dare dream .... I'm super excited for you 🤗
