hello, my son has booked a holiday for me in mid May this year, three months since I had my pm implant (on 17 February). My six week post surgery appointment isn’t until 31 March.
Can anyone advise me on whether or not it will be safe to fly then (three hour flight)? Has anyone flown that soon after surgery with no complications ? Should I ask my consultant first?
Many thanks.

I went to Madeira 9 weeks after PM implant, no problems, but do ensure you add PM to travel insurance. If you are going somewhere hot make sure to protect scar with high factor sunscreen!
I can understand your worries. Perhaps your son jumped the gun a bit. As you need to be feeling stable before contemplating a foreign journey. I went on a cruise not long after my 2nd pm and all was well. have you got travel insurance ? You will probably have to pay a bit more. Do you feel ok now. Has it helped your heart. Definitely speak to your consultant. But if you don't feel up to it ask your son to cancel/ postpone trip.
Luckily, my son hasn’t booked flights yet, waiting to hear what the consultant’s office advise. I always take out fully comprehensive travel insurance, at my age I believe it’s essential. Costs a fortune but better to travel and enjoy the experience rather than have the uncertainty spoiling the trip.
I’m feeling ok, thank you, but still experiencing ‘thumping’ and weird rhythms, especially after eating and when I go to bed (which may be down to anxiety?!?). Post surgery check up not until end of March.
I went to the Paris Olympics at the end of July having had my pc inserted in May. I got travel insurance without any problems and found getting through the various scanners easy, make sure you carry your card with you.
Hi, good to see your post and hope you are well. I had my pacemaker fitted towards the end of January 2019, and flew to Bulgaria a shade under three months later with no problems at all so you should be ok. The holiday is certainly something to look forward to and it is a real blessing when your grown up children organise a holiday for you (I know from experience!).
Hi, I’m ok, thank you, wound still sore, rhythm and bpm still erratic and I’m still my own worst enemy (ie anxious), but early days, hopefully all will be well in the not too distant future.
Thanks for reassuring holiday experience, consultant’s office haven’t got back to me yet. I haven’t had a holiday since 2023 . . . . a short sunshine break in Sicily would be wonderful, my son paying for it - magic!!
