New to forum after recently having a TIA

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum after being told about it for support. I am 40 years old and on 7th April I suffered a TIA out of no where. I was in the hospital for 4 days, had CT, MRI and angiogram and all came back clear. I’ve now been diagnosed with high blood pressure and raised cholesterol at 6.6. I’m now on statins, anticoagulant and blood pressure tablets. I had already made significant lifestyle changes 6 weeks prior to this happening as that is when I found out my bp and cholesterol were raised, but it seems it wasn’t done in time. I’m around 2.5 stone overweight (having lost 12ams since Feb) never smoked and only drink on occasion such as birthdays etc. It’s taken me a few weeks to understand why this happened as it didn’t seem fair considering my lifestyle wasn’t horrendous, but I’ve come to realise that it doesn’t necessarily work like that. I’m well on the road to recover and have an echo and 24 ecg next week just as a precaution. I’m still waiting to see a dietitian to see if there is anything I am doing wrong food wise. Any tips / advice is very welcome.

Dear LisaCoates82

A massive warm welcome to you to the forum, I hope that it will help you realise that your not alone.

So sorry to hear of your on going illness and to be honest the old “it ain’t fair” feeling visits us all and believe me there are some very fit members on here.

I have never suffered a transient-ischaemic-attack TIA so I will leave answering about that to others that have.

I have just answered your post as a one man welcoming committee and to stress that even though we are not medically trained, many on here have trod the path that you are on.

You seem to be switched on to your diagnosis and are already putting your house in order the best you can, but help is out here and a dietitian is a great start.

Take care and we are looking forward to hearing more of your journey.

Hello & Welcome :-)

I am sorry to hear what you have been through it is very frightening but you are well on the road to getting fit and healthy :-)

From what you say it sounds like you are doing everything you can , you have lost weight and do not smoke an odd drink some walking or other exercise and really I am not sure if there is anymore you could do

Like you say sometimes it is just one of those things but they have caught you , treating you and as I have been told and others to we are lucky in a way to get a warning and the treatment we need and realise we have to make some changes :-)

This is a lovely Community with so much support and I hope it will help you to feel not so alone :-) x

Hi Lisa It must have been very frightening having an ITA. As you say your lifestyle is pretty healthy so it seems unfair. But hopefully with all the measures you are taking everything will settle down. This is a helpful site and many people on here have a lot of experience with heart-related issues. I am still learning - each case is so different. Best of luck with everything especially the weight loss. x

Hi So sorry, I shall never get used to all the ins and outs of pressing buttons! Thank you for your kind wishes - I hope you are keeping well too. I have af but am not certain which sort - so many variations. I take anti-coagulants only - beta-blockers make me faint. Apart from the racing heart, my main symptom is tiredness, which is such a nuisance. I could live a life of leisure for ever! x

Hello :-)

Don't be sorry I do not mind and have done it myself and a positive is I have got to say hello to you which I don't think I have had a chance to do before :-)

A life of leisure would be very nice :-) x
