Flying/ cruise/ atrial flutter

recently diagnosed with atrial flutter. I’ve have increasing episodes lately. I’m awaiting an ablation

I was discharged from hospital a couple of days ago . I take edoxaban and have now restarted bisoprolol. I was taken off it due to low heart rate .

My question is , I’m supposed to be going on a fly cruise holiday in a few days . Will I be safe to travel after this very recent episode of flutter? I’m back in normal sinus rhythm now but still having palpitations on occasion. I suffer from anxiety and I’m scared the plane journey may trigger my flutter?

I haven’t been on a plane or abroad in years !

Dear Summerpumpkin

Hello to you,

Have you been cleared by your Cardiologist to fly? And have that in writing? What would happen if the call came for your procedure and you are away?

Is your insurance totally up to date? Because you said that you have only been just discharged and that you are waiting on a procedure? Not many insurance companies would cover you.

I am sorry to add to your anxiety but only you can know if you can cope with all this while you are away on holiday.

If you can you are a stronger person than me.

Good luck with it all.

Hi , thanks for the reply, my cardiologist was ok for me to fly . I won’t be having the operation until I get back from my holiday. Yes I’ve declared every thing to my insurance . I was concerned as since speaking with my cardiologist I ended up going into atrial flutter again It happened After I had a cold drink of water, hence having to go back into hospital. I guess my worry is will flying trigger my heart off again?

Dear you,

It really can only be answered by your cardiology dept, I wish you well and that your anxiety will not ruin your much needed holiday.

Take care

Hello and welcome to the forum?

In addition to checking your insurance as Blue1958 mentioned you need to check with thee cruise line. In some cases they will not let you board if they feel the insurance is inadequate or there is a risk of medical evacuation being required at sea. Do not risk being under or un- insured as the bills can be life changing!
