Is it my heart?

Hi all,

I’ve been sat here for five minutes thinking about how to tell you about this issue without going on and on.

So for the last few years I’ve been having episodes generally on a daily basis where I would start to feel weak, trembly, fatigue, needing to lie down and almost passing out. I’ve been back and forth to my GP who has given me blood test after blood test and everything has come back fine.

I’ve been under the hospital in both cardiology and diabetes clinics. I’ve had a few tests and they have ruled out diabetes. In the cardiology clinic I’ve had several tests which came back negative and then had a tilt table test which I lasted 11 minutes before I nearly passed out. Because of this it’s stopped me doing any sort of exercise other than light slow and steady cycling and for the last month or so I’ve felt a lot better and was able to get in the garden etc. I thought I’d turned a corner.

Anyway I’ve gone and got a gym membership and I had my first session yesterday where I did some free weights. I felt fine whilst I was in there, but within an hour or so I started to feel the symptoms coming and not stopping. I’m currently 24 hours post exercise and I’m feeling really weak, nauseous and generally just not right. I had to go out earlier with my son and I thought I was going to pass out a couple of times.

When I check my blood pressure I’m 120 over 70 and my pulse is between 60-80bpm.

I thought that this was hypoglycaemia or something like that but I checked my sugars and I was at 5.2mmol so I’m within a normall range.

I’m really worried and scared and don’t know what to do other than go see my gp again, but I feel like he’s running out of ideas

Please post your thoughts.

Thanks

I'm not qualified to diagnose you and all that disclaimer stuff.

I had the same symptoms as you. Normal HB, BP and sugar levels when these feelings occur. Had them about 3 times a week for some years.

I've been through all the blood tests, CT scans, probes in the heart, stomach and other tests to no avail.

They stopped about 2 years ago but have returned over the past 3 weeks.

It has got to the stage that when we go walking or to the shops I automatically look for the best places to fall should I need to.

I've been trying to catch it on my Kardia but I never have it handy or I'm outside.

Stay safe and I hope you find the cause.

Hello :-)

As I read your post I wonder if also you needed to maybe have your ears looked at you could be getting vertigo which gives you very similar symptoms

Your readings for your BP and heart rate seem in the normal range and you seem to have tests done that rule out any heart issues but obviously something is causing this and I expect a little anxiety might be creeping in because when you do not feel right but no one seems be able to tell you why it is going to make you feel a little anxious

It is a tough one and I think and know I would contact my Doctor again and I would tell them that even though all these tests come back fine you know your body and something is not right maybe ask about been referred to have your ears checked but let them know somehow you need answers as you cannot keep living like this

Keep pushing eventually you will get to the bottom of what is going of and let us know how you get on :-) x

As I was reading your reply, I thought "what a lovely, kind reply" - and then saw your title: how apt!

I second all you have said.

To add - definitely get a Kardiamobile trace.

Thank You :-)

I hope you are keeping well :-) x

You wrote ‘then had a tilt table test which I lasted 11 minutes before I nearly passed out.’Just wondering if the Drs said anything about this?

I just read your earlier post which said you were diagnosed with Vasovagal syncope. I looked it up. Do you think that explains your symptoms? Anxiety seems key.

‘Vasovagal Syncopy occurs when you faint because your body overreacts to certain triggers, such as the sight of blood or extreme emotional distress. It may also be called neurocardiogenic syncope. The vasovagal syncope trigger causes your heart rate and blood pressure to drop suddenly’.

Perhaps discuss with your GP whether there is some help available for your anxiety? It might really help.

I eat a bowl of porridge when I feel like that

I have had similar experiences to you but mine is because of LC (I’ll let you figure out what those letters signify - it’s a subject that is generally discouraged in the forum) which has caused chronic fatigue and part of my chronic fatigue is exercise intolerance to anything other than gentle exercise. Weights would be a definite no for me. Have you had a look at the symptoms of ME/CFS? I’m only saying because what you are describing sounds like post exertional malaise.

Morning all, thanks for all your amazing responses. I didn’t expect that.

I was diagnosed with Vasovagal Syncope a few years ago but it was rather a quick diagnosis from the doctors. Anyway I do have another tilt table test in two weeks to possibly confirm it. So we will see on that.

I’ve woken up about an hour ago and I feel ten times better than I did yesterday. I don’t feel like I’m going to pass out for one. The anxiety / tremors are there slightly but they aren’t half as bad.

Hidders LC - I have no idea at this moment what LC is.. I could be being stupid though.

Pollypuss coincidentally I did have a nice big bowl of porridge last night to help me and I did feel better for it.

Organplayer thabks for your response. I have heard of inner ear before. I’ll look in to it but I don’t think it is that tbh.

Again thanks for all your lovely helpful posts. I’m going to the docs to talk about it Tuesday so hopefully they will be able to help.

Hi, yes I originally went to the hospital thinking it was pots but after having a tile table test and almost passing out after 11 minutes they said I had something called “stars” and then Vasovagal Syncope…. Pots does tie up with it though.

What tablets do you take? Could it be a problem with your meds?

Not currently on any medication.

I can't say what LC is because it’s a topic not really allowed. Think of what’s caused the pandemic, I have the Long version of that (for 15 months now).
