Help with unexplained weight loss

Hello all, I am waiting upon the fitting of an ICD. In the meantime, as a type II diabetic, I have been having terrible problems with my guts. Lost 20lbs in just a month. Seems my medications had pushed me into Ketosis which probably is the cause. This came on top of painful cramps and griping in my abdomen. GPs have been useless. Paracetamol to kill the pain, but hasn't worked, so on Co-codamol. Increased Omeprazole to reduce acid, but hasn't worked. They haven't referred me on under the 10 day rule.

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease following extreme weight loss. There are other possibilities for your weight loss but coeliac is a common diagnosis. It can very easily be diagnosed.Speak to your GP .

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Being a lifelong Type I diabetic who was on the committee of a local support group for a decade I have quite a bit of knowledge of the various types of diabetes.

Would it be OK to ask how long have you been diabetic, if you have any other conditions, what medications you are on for the various conditions, your BMI on diagnosis and if your diabetes is managed by your GP or a clinic?

Hi.

Loosing that much weight in such a short space of time is something that should be investigated. Be persistent and go back to your GP, see a different doctor if you can. Say you are worried that they may have missed something, that usually get the doctor worried that perhaps they have. Don't let them just brush you off with painkillers.

Good luck.

Last summer, when I got my summer clothes out, they all fell off me so I weighed myself and realised I'd lost two stone without trying. I'd also started having really bad constipation. My GP had a scan booked and an appointment with a surgeon within 2 weeks. Any sudden change in bowel habits or unexplained weight loss ought to be referred immediately. Nothing was found but I then had a trace of blood show so was sent for a sigmoidoscopy which again was clear but the surgeon is being very careful and has kept me on his list. I see him again in 2 weeks. No further weight loss but the constipation continues. We put the weight loss down to simply my change of diet after a HA. See a different GP and insist on investigations.
