How to say I’ve got an ICD in my chest in different languages.

I’ll flash my card from the hospital but I was curious what other countries do for ICDs?

I’m going over to Malaga for a few days so in Spanish I need to say (airport scanners etc);

Which other countries have you had to explain your situation? What did you say?

Hi have a fab time, I just went for the good old British way of doing things 😅I showed security my card and pointed to my ICD, if I had to say to them I just said pacemaker as they didn't really know what an ICD was I never had any problems in any countries I visited they all knew what the card was for, char

I our experience airport security only need to see the card and they understand. Even on our visits to China, Japan and Europe never had to try to explain. Just card and passport. You could, of course, always use Google translator. Enjoy the trip.

If you say that at security they will give you a blank look, you have to remember that you are in Andalusia. Show your card and point to the ICD. In Spanish it's a Portador de Desfibrilador Implantable so it would be PDI. Also your card will say Cardiology (I assume), in Spanish it's Cardiologia, so they will understand. BTW I have lived here near Malaga for 20 years and had my implant in Hospital Universidad, Malaga and carry a Spanish card and have never had a problem travelling abroad with it.

Hi when I had my CRT-D implanted in 2019 at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (Broadgreen Hospital) they not only gave me my card but a document written in all the languages of the European Union explaining the does and don’ts for airport security as far as CRT-D patients are concerned. I have travelled through airport security in several countries since, and this document works every time.

Thanks guys, at Luton Airport I got very close to a security guard as he frisked me. I even joked he could’ve bought me a drink! I did have my card out at the time & he asked the immortal question of “have you got a pacemaker” before he got personal.

I’ll practise my Spanish for Thursday!

Only place my husband had a problem was Doncaster last month (there’s always a jobsworth somewhere) Mostly (Spain,France,Thailand,Egypt,AbuDhabi,) he just points at his chest & says pacemaker & they frisk rather than scan. Never been asked for his card. Enjoy your holiday!
