I think I would be correct in saying in the majority of cases of a Heart Attack you would know. I had a pain that I knew straight away that this was not a normal pain, it was so very very painful and I knew straight away that I needed help !!!

Regards

Hello :-)

I had 3 heart attacks and all mine were different

The first one before I had it I think deep down I knew something was wrong with my heart

My breathing was not good when I was walking or just doing things in general

Also I would wake up with a feeling like I was having a panic attack yet as I suffer with them I knew it was not a panic attack and the only way I could get it to stop was to get up and start moving about

I believe these were the first signs all was not right

When I actually did have my first heart attack I was picking things up and every time I stood up I was so out of breath

Then as I bent down about the 3rd time I was out of breath really bad , I felt like someone had smashed me in the face with a brick then even though it did not last for long I got a crushing pain in the centre of my chest followed by aching going down both arms

I had to stand and compose myself and thought goodness what was that ?

I knew deep down but I came in and I took an Aspirin and by then I just had the aching down both arms everything else had gone and I was trying to ignore it

This happened at lunch time and it was not till the evening when my arms were still aching and I remembered that feeling of crushing in the centre of my chest I had to go to A&E as I knew what had happened was not right and yes that was my first heart attack the worst of the 3

The second one I was fine really I just got up with bad indigestion but every time I burped I got a little sensation in my heart area like someone had pricked me with a pin , this went on all day till because I had already had one heart attack I thought I better get checked out and was shocked really when they said it was another heart attack

The third I just felt of it and was getting little twinges around my heart nothing painful but I think having had 2 already thought I had better get checked out and yes it was another one , mild this time but still another one

I had to have a triple Bypass after all this

But having had 3 none were the same so I would say to anyone if they are in doubt then please get yourself checked out because they are not always what you see on TV where you drop to the floor clutching your chest and in pain rolling about , some may but not everyone

Sorry for going a little with my reply :-) x

My fiancé had been having pain in his arm (not a shooting pain, literally just a pain around his elbow initially) that got worse with walking...which we found odd, but didn’t think was anything to serious.

Then one day he had mild pain in his chest at work and he saw the GP. They referred to the Chest pain clinic “just in case.” Even the consultant there thought it was likely muscular or anxiety and not heart but referred him for a CT scan (as he did have risk factors for heart problems.)

The CT scan showed several large blockages and he needed a triple bypass! And the chest pain turned out to be angina.

I haven't had a heart attack as far as I know, but I do have angina. This was discovered thanks to my dentist. For some time I had had jaw pain occasionally and when I mentioned it to my dentist she advised me to see my doctor which led to an angiogram. It turned out there was some small blockage of 2 small branches of one of my coronary arteries but, as the cardiologist put it, "too small to warrant any fiddling around with". The thing to remember is that heart problems can cause pain in other places, not just the chest and arms.
