Hi guys hope you’re well? I recently suffered a heart attack and unable to work for some time. Are there any ways of a ‘self employed’ person getting a sick pay of sorts or any other help does anyone know? Many thanks much appreciated

Google DWP Benefit Calculator. Fill it in and see what benefits you can get.

If you pay full national insurance you are entitled to sick pay. And most of my friends who are self employed have insurance coverage. Check with DWP.

Good luck

As others have said you may be entitled to SSP. If you are on Universal Credits already you may be entitled to LCWRA (Limited Capacity for Work and Work related Activities) but it’s definitely worth you speaking to a benefits advisor. The CAB would be a good first port of call.

Citizens advice are not worht it. Their advertised phone numbers on their website are not actually working if you do get a working phone number you'll never get through. The queues at the CAB in Hackney are baout 2 hours long and then they restrict appointments at the door. So I would go straight to DWP You are entitled to support ... usually P.I.P (the old D.L.A) you should get your rent paid and about £70 quid a week if you're lucky. All the best Tim

SSP (Statuary Sick Pay) is paid by the employer so being self employed you cannot get that. If you have paid NI contributions you should qualify for ESA (Employment Support Allowance).

You can get new style ESA if you have paid full national insurance for the last two years from DWP.

Forget CAB and phoning DWP. Just go to the website calculator and do the first one listed. It is so simple.

I did it from boredom and now get a few hundred pounds a week. Half price train and bus fares. Free dentistry and medication. Free eye tests and spectacles and more.
