New symptoms and cardio referral

Recently I had palpitations light headed Ness short of breath . Long story short been referred to cardio in Leeds and now been taking bisoprolol 1.25 mg for a week. The palpitations have died down but I still feel light headed and sometimes short of breath. Obviously also anxious as never had heart problems and just wondered if anyone had similar experiences or reaction to beta blockers... please let me know if your heart issues started like this or if the side effects of beta blockers wore off. I tend to be an anxious worrier so any encouragement would be greatly appreciated at this early stage in my condition.... whatever that might be! Many thanks.

I got dizzy on Biso 6 years ago, couldn't get used to them so came off them. Recently put on Nebivolol 2.5 as an alternative. So far I have been ok.

Thank you...I'll give it another week or two but if only on low dose 1.25 I dread to think what a high dose would do!

I had bisoprolol for a few months after being diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib or AF) and never got used to it. It actually made me feel worse than the symptoms of the AF. It all came to a head when I couldn’t even walk down stairs one morning as I just couldn’t breathe. My wife phoned the hospital and the consultant cardiologist called us back within a half hour and told me not to take any more.

Wow how scary...they say they're the cheapest to produce. Good that you got contact quickly with a cardio

I think it was my wife shouting at them that got him to call back so quickly 🤣

Yep, also couldn't tolerate bisoprolol, even low dose. Had to use asthma pump as breathlessness really bad. No problems coming off it.

I couldn't tolerate bisopralol either after heart attack. No breathlessness but it dropped my BP so low I spent most of the day asleep. Got it changed. I was on 1.25 too.

Thank you...what did you change to?

I can't think of the name right now because I had to stop that one too. I never actually needed BP tablets so I was taken off them. IT was just the standard list they give to everyone after a HA> I think it may have been Candesartan but don't quote me.

No probs. At the moment it's stopping my palps but still light headed short if breath etc ...I react to some vitamin tabs so got no chance with BB ones. Take care

Give it 3 weeks at least. The side effects do normally wear off.

Like you I have been on bisoprolol now for around 18 months to help with palpatations/ ectopic beats and shortness of breath etc. The meds have eased them a bit but I still get them now and again. Im currently on 1.25mg and I still get light headed and dizzy etc and have questioned my gp if I should still be on them but I have bradycardia resting heart rate of 33 beats, along with mitral valve regurgitation and left ventricular hypertrophy which don't help things. My concern is if I come off them then I may have more frequent palpatations so for now until I've had more test done I will stay on them. Maybe your gp can prescribe other meds to help with the palpatations and the side effects of bisoprolol that might be better suited for you. Best wishes

Taz.

Thank you Taz .. I'll stick with them and see how I go after cardio referral. Might feel better knowing a diagnosis as for me it's early days and I do have health anxiety ...best wishes.

I'm on 2.5 mg Bisoprolol with 1.25 as PIP, no problems foe me. Just a question, are you on statins? I got light headed, breathless and had a cough with those, even at a fraction of the original dose.

No thankfully...my cholesterol was 6.2 down from 7 so it has been discussed if further increase but prefer to take plant sterols if it goes higher. I've heard many negative reports re side effects do to be taking 2 tablets with the head dizziness etc would ruin my quality of life. Bad enough on these BBs!! Also some controversy re statins. Good that Biso doesn't cause you probs. Very lucky ..
