12 years ago today I had my heart attack at work at 6.30 am, taken to Southampton General Hospital which luckily has a 24 hr Cath Lab, 2 stents and up on Cardiac care ward by 9.30! sent home 3 days later. I am still here and apart from gradual increase and additions to my drug routine I am still a reasonably healthy 70 year old.
For those of you who are earlier on their heart journey, it does get better, it never goes away but it slowly goes to the back of your mind and you learn to live with it. I hope to report again in another 12 years!

Hi Geoff51, I am so glad to hear your news! Congratulations on your anniversary. I am four and a half months post bypass and very slowly improving. Your post helps me to believe it will get better!! 🤗☺️
I hope so too Geof, same age but nearly 3 years for me. What did you change to get where you are today? What meds are you now on and what are you "learning to live with"?
Ramipril, Atorvastatin, Bisoprolol, Aspirin, Dapagliflozin and Amlopidine plus omeprazole to counteract the affect on stomach lining. two inhalers for occupational asthma (50 years a baker breathing flour dust) and Sukkarto SR for borderline diabetes, GTN spray! Its a wonder I dont rattle! As far as learning to live with, after 12 years surviving MI you put it to the back of your mind, get on with life and I didnt change anything really, apart from retiring 5 years ago!
I’m 6/7 months post heart attack cardiac arrest stent fitted continuous AFib with after a cardio version is now intermittent. I’m 59 and still off sick from work. I have a decision to make- return to work or not. I take it Geoff51 retirement was right for you?
I had my heart attack at 58, I returned to work 12 weeks post attack, had medical assessment with company Doctor, cleared to return to work. I was offered light duties but decided to return full time to my job as a baker, which was quite physical and heavy lifting involved. I had been a baker all my life many years in management but at the time i was just a baker. Yes it got harder with advancing years but being a 4th generation baker I knew nothing else. I carried on until 65 and retired on my 65th Birthday and have now been retired 5 years.
Ouch!!! I was, up until a couple of weeks ago, on just aspirin and atorvastatin and changed just about everything, diet, exercise and head. Still trying to figure out what works in terms of diet. I now have some stomach issues. Glad to hear you are doing so well despite all those meds.
I remember going to Southampton General for my first one, which will be 19 years ago in a couple of weeks time. They were fantastic. (Just had No.7). I was 39 at the time with a young family. I ended up working there for a while as a contractor in there projects dept. Best hospital around and I have been in most of them.
