Today it has been 9 years since my Heart Attack and 2+ years since retirement, thankfully apart from having to wear support stockings for swollen feet I have remained healthy and am enjoying retirement. What I am trying to say is that life after an MI may be different but is still enjoyable so its not the end its a new beginning.

A colleague's father and a friend's mother are both forty years post heart event (bypass and HA respectively) and doing well in their nineties. Providing you follow a healthy lifestyle and avoid sports like base jumping you probably have decades to go! :)

Forty years post a bypass operation, that's wonderful news. My biggest concern is that the veins that were harvested for my bypass won't prove equal to harder work of acting as arteries. So nothing cheers me up more than a story of multiple decades of post bypass survival!

Yes, it is quite reassuring. The only thing is the meds have had to change as when people she the liver s d kidneys cannot cope so well with breaking down and the byproducts of the medication.

My 6 year anniversary was a few weeks ago. Retired also. Also pleased to report life couldn't be better. Well done. Here's to your continued years. Enjoy them.

Such positive news, thank you. I think the fear of another MI lurks in the back ground of your thoughts, but your post has cheered me up.

Delighted to hear Geoff... and I am sure you have been looking after your health over the last 9 years.. so we'll done you! I am 24 years post heart attack which left me with heart failure! And still working and leading a good life. As you say life can be good after a HA and it definitely does not signal the end. Here's to many more years post HA 😁 Karen
