I'm due to have a CT cardiac angiogram and CT cardiac cor artery calcium scoring in a few weeks. This is probably a silly question but will the metal wire in my chest from my bypass sternectomy (as well as a lot of metal in my dental work) be a problem?
When I was checked post bypass to ensure that my sternum had healed, I was X-rayed. I asked about what would happen if I ever needed a scan and was told that it would be okay. I also asked whether I would be likely to set off the scanners at the airport and was told that I wouldn't.... indeed I didn't!
When you have your scan, maybe just tell them you had a bypass so they are aware. They should have your health record, but I would doubt they will have looked at it!
Recently had an MRI and had to fill in a Safety Questionnaire and if you answered Yes to any question you had to phone the dept and they would let you know if it is OK. (saves time should you turn up and they say No ) So I presume if they thought there was a problem they would contact you .
As an aside when I had an Angiogram I could see the Wires looked like a badly laced shoe lol
Hi I had open heart surgery over a year ago and I have plenty of metal fillings, I had an MRI scan at the end of last year it was fine, they did ask some questions before it but I can't quite remember what they were.I hope all is well with the scan with the scan. char
