Urgent need to pass urine.

Hi, I'm new to health unlocked. So, Had two stents fitted, unable to tolerate anticoagulants. have Afib regularly which last about 5 hours. Side issue of Afib is need to pass urine urgently and frequently, every 5 - 10 minutes for up to five hours. Cardiologist says no idea about urine issue but wants to fit a left atrium appendage occlusion device? Medication, aspirin and bisoprolol only. BP all over the place regularly 190 over 170. HB anywhere from 30 to 120. During attacks unable to support body weight, have to lay down. Does this sound familiar to anyone or am I unique? Any advice appreciated.

Hi, when I had both of my heart attacks, I was told by the cardiology nurses that when the heart is under strain, you tend to want to wee more frequently. The two, I was told are related. Hope this helps, but I’d double check with one of the consultants or your gp.

Thanks for suggestion. All my GP's, when you can get one and consultants seem ignorant of this side effect. Its very debilitating, five hour of visiting the toilet every few minutes. Almost impossible if out and about.

Hello

Just wondering about the volume are you actually peeing or is it just a dribble ? Reason I ask is I have never read about this side effect. I have Heart Failure and take the normal Medication with very little side effects. You really need professional advice, is it possible mental rather than physical reaction. Only giving you a suggestion so please don't be offended.

Regards

Thanks for suggestion. If peeing was an Olympic sport I would be on the podium. Its for real but no help from health professionals at all levels hence my contacting HealthUnlocked thought someone else might be suffering from same. In volume over a two to five hour stint possibly pass about 2/3 litres maybe more. Haven't gone as far as measuring quantity.

Thanks for your response. Yes i am in uk and a major heart hospital. Just been suggested I try amiodarone but seems to have issues for thyroid, liver, vision and mobility. Will try AF Association.

I’ve had that same experience for 14 years……very frequent urination for the first hour or so after going into AFib and I have seen it on the list of AFib symptoms, but rarely.

Thanks, nice to know i'm not on my own. Have you found anything to ease the problem?

The only relief I know of is to not go into AFib. After 2 ablations I had a good run of managed AFib for 7 years while on Flecinide . Only three AFib episodes in that time, all easily converted with cardio version. Flecinide effectiveness wore off after 7/years. There is no cure for AFib and it usually worsens over time. I don’t want to sound discouraging but the best we can hope for is to manage it. The electrophysiologists have strategies. Hope that helps a little. I have fairly severe AFib symptoms so have wanted to not just live with them.

Thanks very much Ozette, what you say makes sense with what I think, problem is my consultant seems not to be on same wavelength. After almost three years of asking to deal with core source of the problem only this last week has there mean any mention of antiarithmic medication and that came not from him but another consultant as a suggestion to him. I think I need to seek out a more competent clinical cardiologist. Afib episodes have increased from one every now and again to two or three a week. I have approached the question of electric signals possibly as a cause but my suggestions are always ignored.

It does sound like seeing a different consultant is a good idea. As far as I know, and I’ve learned plenty in 13 years, heart arrhythmias are electrical issues. I hope you can find a doctor who is sympathetic and listens. I’m greatly surprised that you are having episodes two or three times a week and haven’t been put on an anti arrhythmic medication. A Fib can be very difficult to live with and frightening. People who haven’t experienced it’s symptoms just don’t understand. I had to retire sooner than I had planned because of the unpredictably of AFib. I had symptoms so bad I couldn’t even get myself ready to go to work, let alone get there and do my job. My position required a sub so not being able to get there created a lot of anxiety as well. After retiring I relocated to a different city, found a new cardiologist who rather quickly referred me on an electrophysiologist and that made all the difference. We decided in the first visit an ablation was the the better option for me.

So do try to get another doctor. I’ll be thinking of you. I found it very difficult in the beginning especially to not know anyone with AFib or have a support system that understood. Take care

Hi Airtech, On reading the amount you are passing you must be taking on the fluids? I have been taking bisoprolol and aspirin since 2017 and have not had any issues. Its the electrical side of your heart that needs control by the sound of it. You must insist this gets sorted. Take care!

Thanks tom, this is the strange thing, no I am not taking in the amount of liquid i get rid of. I am always being criticized for not drinking enough. I have been convinced its an electrical signal issue for sometime but consultant ignores me (the patient).
