Hi all, I’ve had a upgrade from icd to crt-d yesterday, anyone got tips for sleeping at night as I remember this was a problem 8 years ago when I had first icd fitted ( i wake up with arm behind my head

Obviously I’ve had arm in a sling for the first 24hrs and wondering if anyone has some tips

Thanks in advance

What worked for me was, stitching my arm of my pyjamas into the side of my pyjamas, (I should say my wife stitched it not me ), it stopped me from throwing my arm all over the place. It really helped.

Good idea I don’t wear pyjamas but might see if I can dig old pair out of the draw

Failing that I might try sleeping with the sling on then removing it in the morning

I stiched a loop to my running belt and put my wrist through it. Used it day and night to keep my arm down

I had a pacemaker fitted and couldn't raise my arm so purchased a foam sling and slept with that on. It seemed to work for as like you my arms raise during sleep.

Hi I had no problem when I had my CRT-D fitted, but one of the other patients in to have his device upgraded said he slept in an extra large tee shirt and didn’t put his left arm in the sleeve, this prevented him lifting his arm.

Another good idea 👍 I remember when I had icd fitted 8 years ago a few mornings i woke up with my left arm above my head 😰 and was paranoid that I dislodged lead ( but never did) thank goodness

As my new machine has 3 leads instead of the 1 I had with the icd I’m finding that the paranoid feeling is coming back 😂

Hi, I was really worried about lifting my arm in my sleep and pulling my leads out of place. I used a long stretchy theraband (as used in Pilates or for physiotherapy) looped around my left leg and then tied to my left wrist. That allowed a fair bit of movement for comfort, but prevented me from raising my arm too high. This worked really well and was worth doing as without it I would certainly have woken with my left arm behind my head or raised up high, especially as the wound started to heal and I had less pain generally.
