Tramadol is an opiate so is very good for pain control. However it is an opiate so it can become addictive if used on a too regular basis. I don't think it's usually prescribed for long term use though

Yes I know it can be addictive, I just wondered about other peoples experiences.Thank you for your reply

I had a HA and angioplasty last June, a couple of weeks ago I started suffering from a very nasty bout of sciatica, my GP gave me Tramadol and I've got to say it's very effective.

Hi, this is only my personal experience, everyone’s experience is different. I was given Tramadol after an op. I was watching tv and I realised the Tudor soldiers on the screen were also marching in the room, interesting. When I tried to walk I had jelly legs like a drunk. Needless to say Tramadol is on my list of not to take.

My dad takes tramadol and finds it takes the edge off his pain (severe arthritis knee pain and sciatica) the only thing is he's been suffering quite badly from constipation, doc thinks the tramadol is causing it🤔

Yes I know this is a side effect of opiates

Hi, I take Tramadol as I have arthritis in my spine, hips and knees. I find it very effective. I take 14 meds a day and have had no side affects.

Hi there,Ooh ,I dont want to be taking so many opiates!🤭

I take tramadol every single day no problems at all heart wise , use to take Co codamol but it stopped working for me . I also take diacodine as well plus 8 paracetamol a day . No problem at all . Don’t worry you will be fine

I tried tramadol but it made me sick ( I react badly to a lot of things). No oter problems though. I'm now on an even stronger opiate. Constipation is the only problem.

HiAll the advice I can give you is stope taking this very harmful addictive drug ASAP it will do you more harm than good trust me I was addicted to it for three years and my ex doctors we’re still Prescribing it to me.

I then decided it was time to do something about my addiction which I did and I am free from this evil drug.

Well good luck

Cheers Andy

Hi Cookie2020

I haven,t actually taken any yet as I am concerned about starting on an opiate, I am allergic to codiene too so very wary. I think Ihave already made my mind up not to start on “opiate road”. Thank you for your reply.

Hi, I broke my shoulder just under 4 months ago. After trying to manage the pain from it for 6 weeks and not sleeping well because of it my doctor prescribed Tramadol. I took it for 6 weeks with no impacts on my heart condition, the only side effect as others have said was constipation. It did have an impact on my heart for a few days when I stopped it (increased palpitations) but I am now just taking regular paracetamol and occasional codeine as I have widespread muscle and joint pain from other things. Like you I was reluctant to go down the route of opiates and worried about addiction but feeling like a zombie from lack of sleep made me feel I had to do something to control the pain and I would do the same again in the same situation (which is a possibility as I am waiting to see if I need a hip op which will involve cutting my femur).

Hi Hidders

Thank you for your reply. I have decided to try and manage without them and see how I get on researching pain relief without opiates. Good luck with your hip, I know the pain of osteoarthritis in my hips/joints is awful.

Thank you

I have fibromyalgia and oesteoarthritis and I have taken tramadol for a number of years now. For me it is a life saver. Yes you can become dependent or addicted however I have never had a problem. Without it, some days I would not be able to function. I only take if absolutely necessary alongside paracetamol.
