Hi anyone have problems with this tablet.I have been on Amlodipine for years no problems. Cardiology now say I need added tablet. This isosorbid monotrate is giving me violent head aches but worse still I feel I’m going blind , blurred double vision, can’t stand any light or even tv seeing double. Considering stopping them. Anyone else have this . Thanks

When I was diagnosed with Angina 8 years ago I was put on 30mg a day.....I had no issues from taking the medication.I had a HA 6 months ago and was upped to 60mg a day, again no issues as you describe.

I would speak to your GP/Cardiologist before ceasing the medicine.

The ' nitrate' head is very common.

I have been on 120mgs of Isosorbide mononitrate daily for nearly 10 years. I gradually built up the dose from 30mgs.

I remember the headache and the other side effects well😱

I take mine in divided doses, 6pm and 11pm.

I also have nitrate patches.

Try and stick with it, drink plenty of water, check with your local pharmacist whether you can take some paracetamol for pain relief.

The symptoms usually resolve in 2 weeks.

Talk to your GP, and perhaps ask about starting on a lower dose and gradually increasing the dose over time, or try taking them at a different time of day.

It's important not to stop nitrates without discussing this first with your GP or Cardiologist as JohnH100 has suggested.

You can have rebound angina if you stop the nitrate tablets suddenly.

Hello Pastime,

I, like Milkfairy , was increased from 30 to 60 and then on 120mg isosorbide mononitrate and have been on them for 3 years. The headache was like a band across the back of my head each time the doss changed but lasted only about a week to 10 days , i have not had any other symptoms from these tablets. I take min at 7:30 am daily

Thanks mine is only low dose 20 mg. Hopefully the side effects will wear off soon

Hi Pastime

I had the most awful headaches for two weeks. They were very painful and seemed to be at the back of my head and extended down my neck. I’d been told it may be the case.

But since then I’ve been fine. Been on them a year in Feb. I started on 2 x 10mg (split). Now on 2 x 20mg. The increase didn’t cause me any issues. Just the first two weeks of being on them.

Hope it helps.

x

Yeah I’d be contacting the GP. I definitely didn’t get blurred vision or stomach pain. The headaches were enough. xx
