I Had a heart attack in July this year two stents fitted. I have noticed over the last couple of month my stools are very black and tarry I have been on iron tablets for years now, Hence the colour of my stools but over the last couple of month they have turned tarry. I did read on the internet that one of the meds I am taking can cause a bleed and therefore cause tarry stools. The medication is TICAGRELOR
My heart meds are as follows
Ticagrelor 90mg twice daily with Soluble Aspirin on a morning. Bisoprolol 1.25mg, Empagliflozin 10mg, and Atorvastatin 40mg.
I would just like to ask if anyone on Ticagrelor has suffered tarry stools.
thanks for your help.

One of the things that I was told on DAPT (dual anti platelet therapy - e.g ticagrelor and aspirin) was that if stools turn black and tarry or become like coffee grounds is to get checked out straight away. Please talk to your GP about this.
Thanks for your reply's had some bloods taken on Friday 26th by a registrar. However these bloods where left in his office over the weekend, and obviously spoilt. I had another set of bloods done on the 30th November. But nothing has come back yet,
I have now been worrying for over a week. How long are these blood tests supposed to take. I am on the NHS app but nothing is showing again today for the tests.
I’ve been on Ticagrelor & Aspirin together (a year each time) after 2 HA’s microbar and not had those symptoms - suggest you have a word with GP. Hopefully something simple to sort.
Ten days ago I had a stent put in my *widowmaker* artery after an evident heart attack . 2 days later, in hospital, I passed a big jet-black stool, unprecedented for me. I was told that my haemoglobin level had plummetted from 127 on admission to 91. That is very concerning: I immediately felt breathless, panting even without any exertion. I guess that is full-on anaemia(?) The medics then gave me an endoscopy, but to their obvious mystification found no evidence of any bleeds. They are now considering doing a colonoscopy in a few weeks' time. Now, one of the drugs I started using at the time of the stent is TICAGRELOR. Having read a little about this stuff, I feel like a guinea pig for Big Pharma. Cannabis, no no no, we need more research (!), but there are vast uncertainties with ticagrelor and its multitudinal pharmaceutical mates.
Would love to hear from others, and especially the results of your blood tests.
