Hi,

With all the meds I'm taking in first year after triple CABG is it safe to take supplements (namely Vitamin D / zinc in winter months)? Or will I be overwhelming my liver?

Thanks

Hello :-)

I have to take vitamin D as I am agoraphobic and without I hardly have any

I have never been told to stop them

The other vitamins I am not sure about at all as I do not take them but there are so many members with so much knowledge on here I am sure they will be able to tell you when they log on :-) x

I've learnt never to take anything without gp approval, unfortunately when on heart medication, natural is not always safe. If you do supplement with vitamins always include them on medication list. Eat the rainbow to get as much nutrients as you can naturally, not always easy. Take care. Moni

Check with your cardio team or your pharmacist. The leaflets included with your drugs should tell you any definite no-nos, but always ask as many qualified people as possible.

I've been taking vit D for years including since being diagnosed with Ischaemic heart disease. I was given it while in hospital for my triple bypass. I have even increased it a bit. I also have epilepsy so drugs for that affect vit D so supplementation is often required.

I most certainly do take quite a few supplements and have never been advised not to by my consultants who know exactly what and why I am taking them.

I take a number of supplements in addition to all the usual heart meds. My cardiologist and pharmacist are aware of the types and strengths. Neither have suggested that I stop them. One of them is,a calcium and vit D tablet I take for osteopenia. If you are concerned about a supplement have a word with your pharmacist.

I asked my cardiologist nurse about vitamin d and got the go ahead.

Hi DonMegaI was diagnosed earlier in this year with Left Bundle Block and Heart Failure.

My Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse has advised to to Co Enzyme Q10 and B complex. My heart medication is Nebivolol, Spironolactone and Perindopril. I would always check with your Cardiac team first before taking any supplements...take care now

If you don't want to bother your GP or cardiologist, ask your local pharmacist. They are often more knowledgeable on the matter of mixing drugs than the docs :)

Vit D is actively encouraged.

Since early childhood, I have been using various supplements, but only those that my body required and strictly nothing else. It is important to know that supplements should be taken only after consulting a doctor and only those supplements that contain substances that the body lacks. At the moment I use peptides. I began to take them only after I consulted and passed blood tests with a doctor about six months ago. After the tests, I had to find paradigmpeptides.com/, and then use them strictly according to the course prescribed by my doctor, do not violate it and follow all the rules for taking supplements. For peptides, it is important not to drink alcohol for eight hours. Each supplement intake has its own rule that must be followed. I hope you will be fine, good luck!
