Taking supplements

Does anyone know if it’s safe and beneficial to take vitamin D3 and super magnesium whilst taking Bisoprolol, Candesartan and Rosuvastatin. Also Collagen tablets. Thought I’d up my vitamins as my nails and teeth need some attention. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi, I've been wondering the same about Vitamin D and am also on Rosuvostatin and Candesartin, but with Lanzoprazole, Clopidogrel and asprin too.

There have been a lot of articles in the press in connection with taking vitamin D tablets in the Winter which seems to be a fairly widespread piece of medical advice and some studies suggesting that Vitamin D may improve the immune system's response to Covid 19. There are of course opposing views as set out by StillConcerned. As I'm due to go into hospital shortly, I thought I'd ask the cardiologists for their opinion, both on safety and efficacy, but my op has already been cancelled once so I'm not sure when that will be. Hopefully there will be other replies shedding more light on this subject.

Thanks for your reply I was advised to take low fat by my gp after my H.A. so I will take the supplements as I may be low and the drs are all busy.

Hi Ella. My annual blood test in January showed my vit D level was really low, so my GP gave me a 10 week mega-dose to get it back up again, then suggested I take the tiny daily (25mcg) ones you get over the counter. I gave up on those last month as they were making me feel bloated.

I'm on Carvedilol, Candesartan, Atorvastatin (plus Eplerenone, Lansoprazole, Aspirin & Isosorbide)

Thanks for your input I will take them and see how I feel and if ok I shall stop them in the spring.

Double check at least with your pharmacist. My GP put me on VIt D because my levels were on the low side. 2 years ago they were so low they couldn't be measured at all. Reports are now saying that those taking Vit D have a better recovery from Covid but I wouldn't take anything without getting medical advice first.

Our GP says whole of UK should take vitD from aug-mar every year as UK doesn't get enough sunlight, hubby also takes bisoprolol and has no issues.

I commend rankin1st's GP - (my own is an advocate and takes it himself) there is growing and compelling evidence for Vit D3 - the current NHS dose only treats bones and it is now being generally acknowledged (though known by specialist for years) that it is essential for the immune system esp in this time of covid and the daily dose should be 2,000 to 4,000 IU. Vit D3 should be taken with K2 which carries calcium to bone and helps prevent calcium build up in the arteries. Also take with magnesium which helps activate Vitamin D. Magnesium sorely lacking in vegetables due to growing methods.
