Not sure. It took our local cardiologists four months to get back to me - and then to tell me that the diagnosis of unstable angina that I had in hospital was wrong! Still very cross at the time I spent worrying - and still got the symptoms. No sign of another appointment either.

I had a badly stenosed valve, very urgent, and the consultant phoned me the next day. So I would guess there is not anything urgently amiss.

The waiting can be worse part.

I always ask for a copy of my report to be sent to me. Sometimes they grumble but under the data protection act they are legally obliged to give you one. I also book an appointment with the cardiologist or GP a week or so after tests so they can tell me my results and answer any queries I have. I’m all about reducing my stress levels waiting for results to be explained to me is stressful.

I would follow it up anyway, because, why not? Better to know for sure what’s going on rather than guessing. It might take a bit of phoning around the hospital to get the answer, but I would start by phoning the secretary of the consultant who referred you for the tests. Their number should be on the hospital website. At the very least they should be able to book a phone appointment by phone to give you your results or send them to your GP. Good luck!

Yes your right, i cant presume things are ok i guess.I will try calling them.

Im concerned as ive had alot of issues and my mom has a genetic heart condition.

I just want to know its ruled out.

Thanks for the advice.

There's probably nothing to worry about, but it wouldn't hurt to ring your GP or consultant's secretary. I've had several echos, and monitors, and the average time it took for me to get the results was 7 weeks, which seems to be the norm, according to people I've spoken to locally. I had another echo 6 weeks ago and although I haven't had the results, I had an appointment yesterday for 20th aug to see a consultant who specialises in inherited heart problems at the main heart centre in our area. I had an ICD implant a few months ago and both my sister and son have had heart problems in the last 2 years.

Ok, i do need to try and get in touch with them your right. Hopefully all is fine..x

When u waited 7 weeks were your results ok..??

in reply toSj2021

None of my results came as a shock to me, because they only confirmed what my consultant suspected, and he'd already explained it all to me. After a few trips to A&E with tachycardia, I had an ICD implanted. That's when they found out I also had AF. My medication was changed, and I've been fine since, touch wood. I've got an appointment at the major heart centre in 3 weeks time, but I think that is part of a hereditary heart disease study. I hope you get your results soon, and it's good news. Try not to worry. Hard, I know, but stress is the last thing you need. Take care.

Im worried to ask! ...i guess deep down i reckon its good but what happens if its not. Im wondering if i want to know.......Im glad your doing ok xx

in reply toSj2021

Believe me, ignorance is not bliss! The sooner you find out what - if anything - is wrong, the sooner they can start whatever treatment you need. If there's nothing wrong, the sooner you can stop worrying about it. Let us know how you get on x

Ok, your right, im going to start looking into finding out results Monday x thank you for the advice xx

Just adding my bit as someone who is awaiting his 30th Echo, I would certainly advise to contact your Cardiologist asap, whilst unlikely that there is a problem, peace of mind should never be understated.

Majority of mine, I've breezed through them, and usually have feedback fairly quickly, but, sometimes there is a delay. I tend to get a feel for it when it's a bad Echo, and I've had a few, as the guy who has normally done them for the past 20 years is less chatty and more focused. I also have a good relationship with my Cardiologist, again under his care for over 20 years. I trust him impecabily, but, not everyone has that benefit.

It does no harm asking the question, it may just save some heartbreak down the line....
