AF and Aspirin. Stopping Ticagrelor

Does anyone know if there is a reason why one should change from Aspirin to Warfarin or one of the new blood thinners if one has AF or does it depend on how severe the AF is? Also I know most people stop taking Ticagrelor after a year but has anyone been told to continue taking a lower dose for another 2 years [90mg to 60mg] and do you know why. Have left messages for my cardiologist but no answers so far.

AF increases the risk of strokes. A switch to a thinner that works better against strokes is a good move, so my cardiologist says. I’m on Edoxaban instead of aspirin. No problems so far.

My Clopidogrel was stopped after about a year - it took them a couple of months to realise I was still taking it.

I took Ticagrelor 90 mg for a year and now in 60 mg lifelong. Cardiologist told me it’s because I have a tent after a heart attack and family history of heart attacks.

Thanks Maisie2014 good that your cardiologist spoke to you abut it and explained why.

I am sorry I do not know enough about the medications to be of help. All I feel I know is that I believe if you have a mechanical valve you have to take Warfarin and no other drug can be substituted. I hope you can find the information you need and would strongly advise only changing medication on advice from an appropriate medical professional.
