1 week into taking isosorbide mononitrate and still getting whopper headaches. Any advice people? The good thing is it has helped the chest pain from newly diagnosed angina 🤞

Headaches
When I used to take this medication I overcame the headaches by splitting tablet in half then taking half morning half evening 😁
Oh! Thanks so much. It’s a capsule though. I didn’t know you could half them?? Also can I ask how you got off them please. I was under the impression that I’d be on them forever. I’m a newbie to this and so really appreciate your help 🤗
Hi oh that’s a pain obviously mine was a tablet with a score line down the middle so it was straight forward to split it ! I eventually had a stent fitted and the Isorbide was stopped. I think some people have found after a few weeks the headaches diminished. I recall this topic in this Forum before a quick search might help you. Good luck I wish you well
Hi Worvera
I have been taking isosorbide mononitrate tablets for many years. I will be on my many medication for life.
My angina can't be ' fixed' with stents or surgery.
The nitrate ' headache' is very common at first. It can take a couple of weeks to go.
I found drinking lots of water helped ( the medicine lowers your BP).
I take my tablet at night.
Take paracetamol for the headache.
Hi Worvera, ive been on Isosorbide monotrite tablets for many years and I am also on the Isosobide monotrite sublingual spray that you spray under your tongue. Unfortunately one of the side effects of the spray is a blinding headache. But the spray gives you quick relief when you're having an angina attack. I have now got used to the tablets, so hopefully it will work for you in time. For goodness sake, don't try to cut the capsules in half. Go and ask your GP if you can have the tablets instead of the capsules. Your Pharmacist won't be able to give you the tablets if the doctor have prescribed the capsules. So go see your GP ASAP. Good Luck. 🤞
Thank you! I have arranged a telephone consultation with the practice pharmacist so hopefully I will get swapped to the tablets. I really appreciate your input 😊 Have the attacks got any better over the years?
No my attacks have actually got worse. I've got 2 Heart valves that aren't working properly, but they can't do a replacement for me, because they said that I wouldn't survive the surgery . It would have to be open heart. I also have COPD and Asthma as well as the angina. I also have numerous other health conditions and have been housebound for nearly 6 years. I take Bisoprolol and Amlodipine along with aspirin to help with my heart problem. .I take my Anora, my ventolin and I use my nebuliser ,if and when I need to.I hope that your Pharmacist can do a swap for you, because they are a good tablet , if you can manage the side effects. Take Care and Stay Safe. 😊🤞
Hi Worvera ,I was just wondering if you've had your consultation with your Pharmacist. Hopefully they have changed your capsules to the tablet for.. Have a good weekend and stay safe. 🤞
Yes thanks Gjkas. She was wonderful and gave me information that I should have had all along. She represcibed and I’m now on 2 x 10mg four hours apart. I’ve only got a low grade headache which is more manageable 🙂 I hope you’re keeping well 😊
Hi Worvera, I'm so glad that she sorted your tablets for you. I think that the Pharmacists know more about medication than our GPS do. Fingers crossed that your headaches will disappear altogether after a couple of weeks.
As for me, ive been in a right mess.
I have to go back in hospital again because my Bile Ducts have become blocked again. ( long story).
But I'm not going back in just yet, because I haven't come out that long. Anyway you stay safe and look after yourself. 🤞👍
I'm the same will be on it for life . Mine also took quite a few weeks to settle and I swooped to taking other medication at night that helped . It did take quite a long time for all medication to settle . All the best
All the best to you too Nendx. Life can sure be a bitch sometimes.
Stay Safe and as well as you can. 🤞
