2 Years on

It is now 2 years on from my heart attack, I had an angiogram and was told I didn't need any stents or surgery at that time, and was put on the usual cocktail of drugs prescribed for heart problems. I recently noticed my ankles and feet are swelling up , but wasn't too concerned, but on the 25th May (exactly 2 years on) I got quite concerned when my ankles and feet swelled enough to alarm me, I have also been struggling with walking up hills recently. I rang my doctors practice and explained my problems, I was offered a phone appointment for Tuesday 1st June, yesterday 26th May a doctor rang me from the practice and told me I should have a blood test as soon as possible and a scan, further to a few more calls to the practice I have now got an appointment for a blood test on Tuesday 1st July. I don't know weather to call the 111 number and ask them for their opinion. I am not a person who normally panics over things, but this is giving me concerns. I will keep this site updated. Keep safe and take care. Ruth

I’m so sorry, I can totally understand why the swelling is worrying you. Are you sure the blood test isn’t Tuesday 1st June (coming Tuesday)? If it’s 1st July I’d go back to the GP as that doesn’t sound soon to me. I’ve always found 111 really helpful so do ring them if you have worries. Or you can fill in the online form and someone will call you.

Thank you for your reply, my text should have read June and not July, (it's an age thing) I think I will ring 111 just to put my mind at rest. Ruth

With regard to my own situation. I had swollen ankles and legs for years which were largely ingnored by my GP(I am slim ) until last year when |I told him in no uncertain terms I wanted a hosp. referal. I got one and the end of the story is I had fluid overload in my lungs and around my heart .Background history of existing Afib and other heart problems should have alerted my GP to what was going on but it did'nt.I lost the fluid overnight after meds.

Thank you for your reply, I was signed of the cardiac program in January 2020, since then I have not had any interaction about my heart with a doctor until this week, the doctor just keeps on renewing my prescription when it runs out. My concern is that I am short of breath and I have not had this ankle thing before. (My previous text should have read my blood test is on 1st June and not July) keep safe. Ruth

My GP also just kept renewing meds. perscrition and I found out at the A and E one of the meds I had taken for years was now affecting me negatively. Also my thyroxine was was way out.

Thank you for your reply, I am not getting much help from my doctor unfortunately. I am going to ring 111 just to put my mind at rest. Stay safe. Ruth
