I had a double bypass 21 years ago at the age of 44. I had a stent inserted 4 years later. I have a heart murmur caused by a subaortic membrane for which I have a yearly echo and follow up and have recently been diagnosed with micro vascular angina. I have been on Bisoprolol 2.5mg for 22 years and have had bradycardia with a resting heart rate of 50.
This Friday I had chest pains, palpitations, shortness of breath and nausea and went by ambulance to A&E. All my blood tests, ECGs and chest X-rays were normal. I was kept in and admitted to the CCU for observation. The cardiologist came round on Saturday morning to assess the patients. After checking all my details and symptoms he diagnosed Symptomatic Bradycardia. Over time our bodies change and now 2.5mg Bisoprolol is too much and I have now been prescribed 1.25mg. I am now feeling much better and will see how I get on. I have a follow up cardiology appointment in a few weeks. Hopefully this will resolve my symptoms and that I’ll not require any other intervention.

I'm more than a little interested in this. I'm talking about a slightly longer time than yourself - a quad bypass and stents since - and been on both Atenolol & Bisoprolol since along with a raft of other meds. Since an episode 6 months ago I have had a difficult year with one thing and another and asked for a meds review which is due in about 2 weeks time. You have given me food for thought over this. Thank you, let's see what happens.
Hi, the same thing happened to my Mother she is 88yrs old been on Bisoprolol 2.5mg for years for fast heartbeat then had pains in chest and really breathless. After trip to hospital and tests found heartbeat had slowed and was taken down to 1.25mg then off of it completely. Doing really well now.
