Just over two years since my aortic valve and aneurysm fix. A post for those waiting and worrying who live fairly active lifestyles really. On Sunday I 'climbed' Coniston Old Man with my son in the (5 hr) morning and then canoed around Coniston water for 2 hours in the afternoon - the only side effects are the sore muscles any 58 y-o would have and I felt fine throughout (or as fine as anyone would climbing that hill in 30C+).
NHS post op monitoring has been - err - patchy, but I have had two echoes and one (telephone) conversation with one of the cardio team and all seems well with the new bits.
stay positive, listen to your body - trust the team.

Hi Cliff - yes, was checked out for chest pains when i was 50, consultant said "how long have you known about your murmur?" Annual scans thereafter - it was actually the fact that the aneurysm started to grow that triggered intervention.
Wonderful to read this Steve. Well done you. 15 months since the same operation for me and yes would say the same regarding the follow up since the op - a bit patchy to say the least. Keep on “keeping on” as they say,
All best wishes
Sarah
Thank you so much for your positive post, fantastic to hear.
Thanks so much for your positive post. I do Bootcamp now but within my limits…frustrating but necessary to limit…. It whenever I have my op It’s my goal to rebuild better and fitter ….keep on going 😀
Fabulous to hear your progress! I am 17 months on from my AVR and hoping that 1 day I will climb a mountain. Steady progress bit by bit, but good to think I shouldn't rule things out. All the very best and hope you carry on with your adventures 🙂
This seems a *good news* day! First I read that MichaelJH has walked for the first time in eighteen months and now you achieving what most men your age cannot! Brilliant!
Well done mate . I've been active all my adult life and took heart attack on the 25th may this year. A mega shock spent a week in hospital and fitting with a stent. I'm now starting to feel a bit better and walking everyday tho only 2/3 km at moment but building it up and using my indoor cycle and building that up to but have missed my kayak but hopefully will be back soon. Keep up the good work. You have given me hope.
Hi.. Thanks for this post. So pleased things are going well for you. So nice to hear. Looking forward to my avr surgery although terrified but sick of waiting. Look after yourself ❤️.
Hi Steve- that sounds positive- coincidentally I climbed The Old Man of Coniston yesterday (Tuesday)! This was my first mountain since my heart attack in April this year - it was hard going particularly as I am presently in persistent AFib but it was good to be back in the hills 😀
