Hi everyone

Nice to see everyone

I had cardiac bypass about 6 months ago, have recovered well from the surgery.

However at times do get emotionally drained.

Have been doing the recommended exercises, in fact more than the recommendations

Would be happy to answer any questions , about the surgery, planning/recovery etc.

Regards

Hello Biscuit 22

Welcome to the forum, 4 years ago had Aortic valve replaced and bypass. So can understand when you say you are sometimes emotionally drained. After OHS we have to let our body and our brain catch up with what as happened to us. It does improve just takes a little time, it’s great to read your doing well with your physical recovery.

Remember you are now a member of the Hearties family and travelling the mended heart road.

Best wishes Pauline

Hi....glad to hear you are recovering well. My bypass surgery is on the 12th of this month and whilst I knew this would happen and felt prepared, I am now very scared and have convinced myself something will go drastically wrong.I gave up smoking last September when I had my HA, I'm not overweight, eat healthily and walk as much as my bad hip (waiting for revision) will allow. So tearful all the time. Would so appreciate any help or advice and thanking you in advance.

Hi.

My husband is also having a triple bypass on the 12th May.

He seems resigned to this operation more than I do.

We have been married 42 years and I have been his nurse for the last year not a wife.

I feel so worried for my husband and also my ability to care for him post op.

Wishing you well on the 12th.

Christine

Thank you Christine and best wishes to your husband. I'm sure you have the ability to care for your husband post op. My brother had the same op last year and he said he'd do it again in a heart beat. My sister in law said she on,y needed to really do anything heavy for him and make sure he ate well as you can get loss of appetite.

Hi Christine,Well it sounds like your husband has a carer and a wife to me.

He’ll have some challenges (as will you) make no doubt about that but please read my post to EwaUK below.

I would say that my wife is my rock, I would be lost without her. I can only try to understand what she must have been going through when I was in hospital. But together we came through it and I’m sure that both of you will too.

There will be times post op that your husband will go through a variety of emotions. This is only to be expected.

At least that’s what my wife said about me but as far as I’m concerned I was never grumpy 😇🥴😂😂😂

By the way - they’ll only let him home if there is a care package in place. If your worried about that, let them know in the hospital. They should be able to help.

Best wishes for the 12th 👍

Hi. Mr Bond 😂

Your reply not only helped but I loved your last line re aspirin. You sound like my husband, always making light and making the best of the situation. He really thinks when he gets home that he will be a new man and will be going out and about. I hope he is but fear he hasn’t accepted it may be a longer road than he thinks he’s on.

Thanks you for your reply.

Christine

It’s a frightening time for you right now, I know.

I had been in the heart journey for a few years before having my bypasses.

December 2016 heart attack.

March 2017 five stents.

So when I needed to have a bypass I thought I was ready but I really wasn’t.

However, I started getting more and more problems until they took me into hospital early.

By the time I was taken to surgery (March 2019), if they didn’t have a trolly I would have run there and hopped on the operating table myself 🥴 I was so glad to be getting it done!

I had a quintuple bypass (CABG x 5) on Monday.

Walking on the spot Tuesday.

Wednesday walking around the bed.

Thursday walking the wards.

Friday walking everywhere I could.

Saturday I was home having Steak n Chips and a glass of wine (i deserved it 😉) and watching the Voice on TV.

You’re going to have it tough for a while, that’s true, but keep your eyes on the end result.

I used to say "every day in every way I’m getting better and better", I knew I was fibbing sometimes but I had to keep my mind right.

Four weeks after the op I was driving my car.

12 weeks I was riding my motorbike.

I sing in a male voice choir and play and sing in a guitar group with the U3A.

I’ve just installed a new bathroom suite and getting ready to do another in our home (someone tell my wife I’ve had a heart bypass will ya 😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣).

All the best for the 12th you’ll be in the hands of some of the best, if not the best cardiology surgeons in the world 👍
