I have to take Furosemide,40mg. per day. For some reason this has suddenly become a problem. Please, has anyone a plan as how best to take this necessary medication and yet be able to leave the house . I find it takes about 5 or 6 hours before I am “safe” . Many thanks.

Hi there, been taking furosimide also for about 7 yrs now I take it before my other heart meds as soon as I get up and find I'm ok to go out an about after about 3 hrs at most.It can be a nuisance if you have something planned early morning an need to go out

Thank you . It is difficult but I’m getting there!! Yes, any appointments in the morning can be , as you so rightly say, a nuisance. However, it really does help to have a kind, helpful , friendly word from someone who understands the problem.

Have been on it 4 years, normally take it as soon as I am up, around 6:30, it takes about 3 hours to ease off the first hour 4-5 times! If I have to be somewhere early 9 am take it when I get back. Not been anywhere in the last 12 months! Apart from medical appointments 😂

Thank you for your helpful advice. Ive been trying different times of the day to take the medication but I think your idea is by far the best.

Sometimes it is knowing where all the loos are if you are out. In the present climate that can be very limited. It is sometimes like playing University Challenge - a starter for 10. For me it is a necessity as am back up to 160mg per day - split 80mg in the morning and the other at lunchtime but definitely no later than 2 pm.

When I read your post, it brought back a few memories, I was in hospital for 7 weeks before my OHS, I was on a diuretic drip twice a day on by 6 am and again after we had lunch and before afternoon visiting, in total I lost 64lbs! Not the best way to lose weight! On the toilet so much it was unreal😂 gave my heart a chance before I was transferred to the heart hospital for the surgery. So now just on 40mg daily and heart is coping 🤞

Yes, I have been up & down with these and can have up to 240mg per day. Tried all ways to find out why I am like this as every so often I bloat up and end up in hospital because i am seriously breathless.

They appear to have ruled out any cardio issues so have an appointment with the lung consultant later this month.

In February I was prescribed 40mg furosemide with other prescriptions for high blood pressure and diastolic heart failure. I have to urinate every 15 to 20 minutes for a out 6 hours making it difficult to do anything else. I also experience low pelvic pain which I presume to be bladder irritation. Anyone else experience bladder discomfort? I will connect with my cardiologist.
