Does anyone know if one has to take furosemide indefinitely? the constant need to "Wee" is most limiting!

I suppose it depends whether your fluid retention is persistent or not.I`m on it for 2 weeks but the only one who can tell you is your doctor.

I don't have fluid retention, that's why I am annoyed with furosemide. However I have a cardiac OP appt 6th Feb so will ask for their advice. Even if they may not be experts at least considered professional!

My husband was on it for almost a year but was only taken off it due to blood pressure issues.

Thanks for reply, I have hypertension so that maybe why I am prescribed the drug...don't have fluid retention!

I have taken Furosemide for a couple of years now. All started when I became very breathless and had swollen legs, ankles & abdomen. Started on the 1 tablet (40mg) but had to increase when nothing was budging the fluid. Now got used to it all and take 2 x 40mg daily, noting whether retention is prevalent and can go up to 6 x 40mg daily if necessary.

Important thing to note for higher doses is to have regular blood tests to ensure Kidneys are coping. I now know where just about every loo is in the North East as once you get the urge to go then you don't get a lot of time. You don't have to sit at home all the time you just make adjustments when you go out.

Believe me I too know the concern about locating loos. The problem I have is a lot of loos in my town and the places I visit have been closed. I don't get any time when urge happens and sometimes I just leak (constantly) and that Is worse I don't sit at home but have had to resort to pads. Yes I know I'm not alone but oh dear such a bind.

Poor you,it seems fursomedite has a lot to answer for.Thank goodness it`s not a regular issue with me.Public loos in my nearest town charge 20p.Do you think I could claim expenses!!!

My trip out on a Sunday may include going to Costco, Tesco, Asda, The Range, Metro Centre or small shopping centre that has an M&S - all have loos or occasionally have to stop in a layby on the way home.

Yes indeed, a bit of a planning exercise just to find loos of any sort...let alone suitable FREE ones!
