While in hospitral recently re Afib and other matters I had a lot of blood tests. Heam blood ok but other components like ferratin were found to be low. So it was suggested I had an iron stores infusion. to replenish my liver blood stores. Has anyone here had one? I am not sure what to expect .

Yes I had iron infusions recently. Had two a couple of weeks apart because my ferritin levels were also very low. Took about half an hour to go through and I had to wait for an hour afterwards to see if I had any reaction. I feel so much better, not so tired now and have to have a further blood test in 3 to 6 months time.

Hi 10 gingercatsHow coincidental., I am at this moment receiving similar treatment. This procedure is more common than people realise I have had a few of these procedures and each time is like getting an energy renewal. If it keeps happening you may be advised to have further treatment if the doctors suggest this I would recommend you take up the offer and you will in normal circumstances find your quality of life improves significantly. But if you get the bad sensations back insist on your GP sending you for a blood test and don’t be put off. Good luck

Thank you.I have had historic anemia due most likely to being Coeliac and not always being gluten free. But this time it seems slightly different with low ferratin in the mix. My GP has been becoming lax recently and maybe should have picked this up together with a lot of other things he 'missed' but an excellent Hospital doc. thought it important enough and i expect to have the infusion next week.

I know what you mean but keeping on top of it will allow you to be able to get through things much easier. Stay well

I would love one but dont know how in Glasgow. My gp doesn't think ferritin of 26 is low. I know it's even lower now 5 heavy periods later. It's a struggle to get out of bed now and it's making my blood pressure go really high. I'm lost. I have coeliac disease so my stomach hates iron tablets.

Try changing your GP or seeing another doc. in the same practice.Or try talking to the practice nurse esp. re the periods problem and she mught talk to the GP.You do have to 'fight' to get treatment sometimes .Perhaps if you can get a face to face appoint. get a relative to accompany you to help support your need for the infusion. Just a few ideas.
