When I first heard this it sounded worrying for those who rely on them. However, a closer look they are in (current) areas of low footfall like airports, railway stations, deserted malls and the City of London. When I worked in the City they seemed primarily to be another lunch outlet and for the sale of vitamins, beauty products, etc. The larger ones had opticians.
Here is an article with the full list of affected branches. Does it affect anyone here?
Think people need to stop panicking and stay calm Michael. There are other Pharmacies which stay open, BOOTS as well in cities, towns and villages. We will be alright! STAY POSITIVE PLEASE! 🙏💜🙏
The reason I posted was for information as thousands live in flats and bedsits around say St Pancras and use Boots, and other outlets, within the stations.
My one nearby has closed, reason being although near a medical centre, also right by the car park. The distancing order meant folk having to queue there, and a risk to themselves and drivers. It will open when things have quietened down. Whenever?
Managed to get with another chemist, who will deliver, as I’m one on the Gov list being vulnerable, probably like most of us are?
Commented our town has been flooded with volunteers. Good to know.
I work(ed) in Central London, just off Tottenham Court Road, and my designated pharmacy was the big branch of Boots on the corner with Oxford Street. It's now closed.
As I live in Lewisham, and had no wish to travel in to collect my next prescription, I had already contacted my GP and asked her to designate the tiny (Day Lewis) pharmacy across the main road from where I live as my collection point for my next prescription. She sorted this out and renewed my prescription (electronically) within an hour.
When I collected my prescription a day later there was no queue, no hassle, system worked perfectly. There were several staff hard at work, all wearing PPE. Many other branches of Boots are certainly remaining open, and other pharmacies are available even in the centre of London. The pharmacists and GPs are doing a great job.
We wouldn't travel to Birmingham City Centre anyway (no car parking now and dodgy packed trains and buses I'm afraid!). Our local tiny Boots is open but there are always queues there. It's really too small to have more than 2 people staying 2 metres away from each other!
Our prescriptions are being delivered by the lovely guy at the chemist next door to our GP surgery.
