Coming off Ticagrelor after 12 months

Hi Folks, Can i simply come off 2x90mg Ticagrelor after 12 months as per the prescription and cardilogist visit 6 months ago or do I need to talk to my GP first?

I also read that continuing on a lower dose of Ticagrelor 60mg for 2-3 years is now recommended by NICE... Is this true?

Also, has anyone moved to low dosage "enteric" treated aspirin in order to help reduce acid?

Any idea how long does it take before I stop bruising and bleeding easily etc?

Many Thanks,

Gary.

After my first heart attack I was put on clopidogrel (and alternative to Ticagrelor) for 12 months. I simply stopped ordering them after the 12 months was up as both the cardiologist and my GP had said I only had to take it for 12 months. I had another heart attack recently. This time my prescription for clopidogrel is marked with the instruction to take until March 2022.

Your bleeding and bruising may stop soon after ceasing to take Ticagrelor. If it doesn't I suggest you speak to your GP.

You could ask your GP about being prescribed slow release / enteric coated aspirin. I'm sure that the 75mg version is available on prescription.

As with all medication you need to consult your GP. We all have different issues that’s why on this forum we should never give medical information on your individual case. I like most came off ticagrelor after 12 months with my GPs instructions.

Take care

You need to speak to your GP and read your discharge letter from hospital. I was on 90 mg Ticagrelor for 12 months and am now on 60 mg lifelong. Everyone is different. My consultant had purposely written this instruction on my discharge letter to remind her when I had my review.
