Dry mouth

After my recent heart attack I was put on several medications including Ticagrelor,Bisoprolol,Losartan, Aspirin etc. I wake up every couple of hours with such a dry mouth and throat that I can hardly swallow, is this a side affect of the drugs and if so is there something that can relieve it?

Hi I had stent fitted last November and are on similar medication to you and I also wake up every couple of hours with a very dry mouth.

Its so dry I can't swallow either and very uncomfortable .

I put it down to medication as never had this before, but now it's every night.

Regards

I periodically suffer with dry mouth at night and you have my sympathies... it can be really unpleasant. I haven't had it diagnosed but I am also on bisoprolol.

I am on the same medication (minus the Ticagrelor as I am now more than 12 months post op) and wake up with a dry mouth most nights. I combat the worst effects by making sure that I drink a decent amount of fluids during the day and evening. The downside is having to get up for a pee once or twice a night. Some may say I am fortunate! 😁

See how it goes. The recommended daily fluid intake is 1.2 - 1.6 litres (2.1 - 2.8 pints). Personally I find this insufficient, but that is just me. As with everything there is a balance to achieved and that will vary from individual to individual.

I keep a bottle of water by the bed and if it’s so dry to wake me I take a small sip of water and I go back to sleep.

Hi Calemino Dry mouth is a side affect of. Bisoprolol for some people, I too suffered with this especially at night, I rang my cardiac nurse ( My doctor was and is completely inaccessible, ) she prescribed ( Nebivolol) which was 100% better no dry mouth now and feeling much better in myself as well , Bisoprolol is the cheapest beta blocker available on the NHS , Nebivolol is far superior, I hope this helps
