Wedding Day worries.

Hi all,

After my heart attack at Christmas and subsequent stent insertion I am now focussed on my wedding at the start of May. I am starting to get some anxiety about the event and whether it is likely to overstress me to the point of another cardiac event on the day. I know this is irrational as I am doing well in my recovery but I wondered if anyone had any tips or thoughts on how to enjoy the day and deal with the anxiety? Thanks for any help.

Hi Bob,It’s still early in your recovery. Medication and their side effects will be settling in. Every tweak in the heart area will make you wonder where is the spray, although you will probably won’t need to use it. The cardiologists have seen your heart, stented and presumably all is now well.

But you’re HERE. You’re getting married 😊. Start looking at it from the opposite direction.

Don’t dwell on “ buts and ifs”. Take yourself out into the fresh air and walk to de-stress.

I’m guessing( my son has a 3rd date for his wedding in July) that it will be 50 close friends and family. What a comfort. They'll all be there to help you celebrate your new life.

Wishing you the happiest of weddings. 🥳

Thank you so much for your very kind, and sensible words. I know I am being silly worrying. I used to suffer very badly from anxiety and depression and went through a lot of therapy which resulted in me becoming a very happy man at last. I think of my wedding day as the best of my life and just want to relax enough to enjoy it. Your thoughts have been very helpful - many thanks. x

Hi Bob. Love and congratulations to you both. I am a marriage celebrant and am so aware that stress can be a significant issue for couples. The worst ones are usually the Best Man and Best Maid lol!! On the day all you have to do is be there fully present, holding and loving your wonderful partner. And stuff everything else!! In Scotland at least you only need 7 things to get married: two people who love each other, two witnesses, celebrant, but if official paper to sign and a special fountain pen provided by the celebrant. The ink in the pen never fades. Know what you need and make sure you have the right people around you to support you to make wonderful memories. This is all about YOU TWO!
