Does anyone have any problems with Amlodipine. I was prescribed Amlodipine as a trial to treat my angina, and immediately had chest pain. I stopped taking it and pain went. I now break the tablet in half, and take half a tablet a day. No pain. Now. My consultant has now left his job, and I haven’t been appointed a new one yet. Difficult to talk to a GP as they seem so busy.

Amlodopine
Hi Des1977. Sorry i can't be of much help but Amlodipine did not suit me at all. I had lower leg ulcers and still have the scars now. Don't care how busy your surgery is. They can do a telephone consultation. Or get in touch with your hospital doctors secretary. Hope you get it sorted soon. Brian
Amlodipine didnt suit me. Took about two years to realize what the problem was. There are alternative meds.
I had very swollen ankles & feet with them so tried another. My pharmacist who I trust greatly, told me that once you have that side effect with an "odipine", all the opidines affect you in the same way. Ask the GP to help.
Hi I too am suffering with swollen ankles and feet from Amlodipine. I wonder what you got changed to and how hard was it to get your GP to change it.
Des, I think amlodipine has a cumulative effect, so (I think) it takes a little while for it to loosen up the vascular network, maybe your pain was just it ‘settling in’ ? I am on the 1.25mg and am also thinking about asking the gp about going down to half that.
I’ve just read the other replies and agree on the ankle swelling. I get that now and then when I’ve been on my feet a lot.
Do you still take Amlodipine? I took it some years ago but had to stop as it wasn't agreeing with me. Haven't taken it for years now as I was prescribed Ramipril instead but am wondering if it was the cause of the problems I started having with swollen ankles which are still ongoing.
Hi Gladliz
Yes I am. I stopped taking it for a short time, and started again Dec 20, but I decided to split my 5mg tablet in half, and take that once a day, as I didn't want the chest pain it was giving me, nor the swollen ankles. The half tablet has virtually stopped the chest pain, and completely stopped the swollen ankles, but as yet I have not spoken to a consultant yet, as I do not have one appointed to me. But my BP is staying around or below 130/70, and I believe this is the objective to stop angina pain, rather than a bypass for the LAD which is 100% blocked. I am exercising and no angina pain so far.
I'm another that can't take Amlodipine. It affected my ability to think clearly. I effectively lost a month of ny life when i couldn't function. I also got swollen ankles. It's on my list of medications to which I have had an allergic reaction.... of which there are quite a few!
HI all that replied and thankyou for your comments. I stopped taking the 5 mg amlodipine, and ankle swelling went down and pain in chest stopped. I decided to break the tablet in half so I was only taking 2.5mg, and my ankles don't swell anymore, but I occasionally get the chest pain, when I do I stop taking it, until it goes, and then start again.
