Hi I'm fairy new here ( posted once). I'm Type 2 diabetic, no medication. I have been on high blood pressure tablets ( amlodipine 5mg + bisoprolol 5 mg ) for 18 months First 3 months after started these meds, I suffered terrible dizziness and fatigue but body must have got used to them, those side effects are much less now. However,I noticed my right calf is noticeable bigger than the other calf about a week ago. I have no idea how long it has been swollen. First thing which came to my mind is amlodipine side effect. But I have been taking them over 18 months now and only one leg? Is it possible? I have no other symptoms such as pain or redness.

Does amlodipine cause only one swollen leg?
Morgan, captopril and bisoprolol are type of medication taken by my wife upon diagnose with PPCM.I 've targeted and mentally prepared on how to get rid of these medication. It takes 2 to battle your issue,i've taken the role in administration of food and medication intake for my wife,so in taking up such role i had to accept the fact that 'taking medication vs not taking medication' both resulting death.....why such thinking you may ask?
1st-your heart is pumping beyond normal, and you might have pushing it more taking granted of your medication is your savior, whats your plan to give your heart a break?
2nd-when doctor advice less salt, vinyger, soya sauce, oily food bla bla bla...and so on ,did you follow strictly?
3rd-following the above steps will only contribute 30% of your recovery, whats your plan for 60% more?
4th-sorry to say this, the root of your issue (60%) your heart area, cel's weekened or die not enough blood supply, what u plan to do about it bro?
5th-you must start thinking and conquer your fear dear bro, start filling your mind with victory, god is within you
6th-Start planning your path now,set a date for full recovery, move towards it.
7th-I've set and her result;
2016-April diagnose PPCM
2017-April discharge PPCM care, stop captopril, continue bisoprolol for next 130 days
2017-July stop bisoprolol cause bp normal
2017 july-2020 oct. Miracle
I hope i've given you confidence and eventhough im far apart i thank Health Unlock giving me a chance to meet you.
PPCM (Peripartum Cardiomyopathy) usually occurs in the final stages of pregnancy or in the first few months after birth. It is not a permanent condition and with appropriate medical care usually resolved within the year.
The poster is a Type II diabetic. Besides the usual risks of a cardiac event stopping medication for BP could result in kidney damage or a retinal haemorrhage.
Hi 3rup8ti
' i've taken the role in administration of food and medication intake for my wife,so in taking up such role i had to accept the fact that 'taking medication vs not taking medication' both resulting death.....why such thinking you may ask?'
Could I ask why you wish to 'control' your wife in this way?
I would hope she has the freedom to choose to be guided by the advice of the registered healthcare professional responsible for her medical care.
Sadly not every woman recovers completely from peripartum Cardiomyopathy and some live with a poorly functioning heart muscle for the rest of their lives.
Good Question, registered healthcare professional are there,no doubt they are good,do you agree they spend very less time with us? Using the short timing which i had ,i need to focus on their opinion's and advice mostly verbal because the next appointment is 3 months away.Put it this way, your next appoinment you are goin to get examine, then your result will be with your doctor ,he looks at your result ,his recomendation and advice will base at your result if u agree with me. Timing is crucial, use the timing wisely,if your body respond positively thats good news. Coming to your question, why i wish to 'control' my wife, the 'freedom'you are talking about came after a year of the recovery process. I wanted her to achive total freedom for good, not temporaly nor partial. With the control i did achived statement from her registered medical specialist him self 'miracle',that was my goal, she is free now living a normal life,i used timing, focus, control, deadline and goal that resulted freedom.I hope i didnt give you a wrong impression in 'control' and i appologize if ive said anything wrong ya..
Hi Morgan. It's possible you've developed water retention for some reason, and the resulting oedema (swelling) can appear in just one leg.
I'd suggest you talk to your GP, or maybe your local pharmacist if you can't get a GP appointment for a few days. Any swellings shouldn't be ignored. xx
I've been taking amlodipine since 2003. First as 5mg and from earlier this year 10mg. The 5mg had no symptoms of swollen feet, ankles or calf muscles. The 10mg has caused swollen feet and ankles which has lessened gradually. HRI water tablets helped in the early stages to reduce swelling.
It is unusual to have swelling in calf muscles and not combined with feet and ankles. Having only one calf muscles swell is not documented so you SHOULD see a doctor as it could be something else.
I would get it checked out with your doctor I had a reaction to these tablets on 1 leg with ulcers on my shin. And I still have the scars to show And have to be careful because the skin is so thin now I am forever knocking the skin off
Hi! I was on Amlodipine at one stage and developed odema particularly on the ankles. Amlodipine is a CCI (calcium channel inhibitor) and odema is a common side effect with them. Another CCI, Diltiazem, did not cause odema.
However the fact it is just the one calf raises concern. Possible causes include DVT, venous insufficiency, damaged varicose vein or phlebitis. If you have any pain go to A&E as a DVT can become life threatening. Otherwise contact your GP or 111.
