Hello,

HF nurse wants me to go on Spironolactone, I have been reading up on this drug, the side effects for men look awful, any males had problems with the side effects?

hi, erm, not sure why it would be a problem for men? unless I have the wrong drug? but I am sure I was on it for a while to help with excess fluid, I was also on furosomide. long story short I did end up in A&E due to dehydration on both drugs but... what is your concern??

Hello, I've read it can cause man boobs, impotence, loss of hair.

bollocks. joking. its not a steroid. and even if you do take a steroid that is not a realistic side effect (not that I know :/ ) HTH

I was on Eplerenone for just over a year and did get man boobs, but the effect thankfully wasn't permanent.

Phew! Had me worried for a minute, I have just started Spironolactone, and, as a male I can do without those sort of side effects, I might have to buy a bigger bra :-)

Be warned..... I have been told several times that if you read about the side effects described in the leaflet that comes with medication, you will catch the side effects! 😂

Hello. My husband found he gained man boobs but not massively, and the benefit far outweighed the side effect. His BP wouldn’t come down below 150 despite ACE inhibitor and beta blocker but as soon as he had Spironolactone it came down to the mid 120s. And his hair grew really well, apparently it’s also prescribed to people with hair loss problems. Everyone’s different and until you try it you won’t know the exact effect it has on you, it may not affect you in this way. All the best,
