Spironolactone and my bottom.

Having real problems taking Spironolactone. Life is good for about 4 hours after taking the tablet and then my colon empties in a spectacular fashion.

I am now trying it after food and see what happens.

Anyone else had this joy in their lives?

Hi I remember being on that you have to take it with food, sorry to hear how it's affecting you maybe request a lower dose or maybe a different diuretic? I was on spirolactone 25mg and it did the trick after 6 months of being on it didn't need to take it anymore x

Sorry I wish I could help x I remember it being hard for me to take with food because I never used to eat breakfast 😕. I remember it keeping me up all night aswell if I took at a different part of the day.

I have been on spironolactone for years and don't have that trouble. I take them all together with my other tabs after breakfast - sometimes later in the morning near lunch time. I have a bad habit of forgetting them. Night tabs I don't usually take until about 11 pm.

I take spironolactone along with 6 other cocktail medications usually in the morning with toast, usually around 8.

If I have any problems I never know which tablet is causing it but I don’t really have that problem. I read the leaflet and I’ve noticed over the years I’ve got another problem with it my chest area enlarged😀Sometimes I want to ask my cardiologist if I can change it, but because my body seems to be doing ok with the cocktail I’m going to stick to it. All the best.

I take Spironolactone along with 5 other meds after my morning cuppas and 2 ginger biscuits. Not had any issues but I'm on a low dose of half a tablet.

Hi , I had the same symptoms I did not even last 4 hours food just shot through me! Also developed symptoms of a urine infection, numb hands and a headache. Finally taken off it when my blood pressure fell to 70 over 50 and blood test showed it was effecting my kidneys. Good luck hope it works for you!

Hello,

I was prescribed the lowest dose of Spironolactone and experienced a number of very unpleasant side effects. Made me feel awful. I informed my heart failure nurse and she changed the Spiro to Eplerenone and all side effects ceased.

All the best.
