Hi, Had Aortic valve replaced and bypass done 4 years ago and after the op could hear my heart beating in my ears, thought it was something to do with the op! When I saw my GP asked about it she told me it was a form of tinnitus like you it was worse at night when the house was quiet. Sometimes it would sound like feet with hob nailed boots on marching over cobblestones. It would keep me awake, used to drive me nuts! Over time it’s got much better and I only get it very occasionally now.
You have my sympathy it’s awful.
Best wishes Pauline
I thought that was just me! Yes, I get it too but just accepted it. Use guided meditation to focus on my breathing when in bed as I fall asleep and that helps me...
Pulsatile tinnitus, if its in just one ear you should get checked as there can be a problem with the blood vessels, if it's both ears docs aren't so bothered, I have it in both ears and I'm waiting for an ENT referral.
Mine is on the left side but not actually in the ear . It’s a whooshing over the side of my head . Volume alters with muscle tension and I suppose blood pressure . They listened to my carotid arteries for a bruit but none heard . I ve had it about 5 years generally it has got quieter over time
I’ve been struggling with this for a few months. It was exacerbated by low iron levels (long story!). As another person has suggested it is generally speaking something you have to manage yourself through relaxation techniques. The Tinnitus Association is a good source of information. I find when it gets bad, especially during the night, a source of ‘white noise is really helpful. I use an app called Rain on my phone with wireless earbuds. I tried recently for an ENT referral but it transpired that it would be at least 6 months for an initial appointment. I fear I gave up. You will find ways to accomodate this.
I had it too - at night in bed - after an aorta replacement. Its horribly disconcerting but after 7 months it went.
Yes wondering if mine is caused by amlodipine as came on after increasing to 10 mg, back down to 5 mg but still there.
