Well, saw my lovely Consultant yesterday. I'm "unusual and very fit" 😁. CT scan and CT angiogram before Xmas. Valve replacement Feb/March. He thinks mechanical but a bit of me would prefer tissue valve. I'm just letting this all sink in. You'll probably see me a lot on here folks wheedling away. Sorry x

Foot in the door now
Keep weeding! You’ve had lot of Big news that takes some absorbing. I’m really glad your Consultant has a good plan in place for you.
I’ve seen some informative discussions her on whether to go tissue or mechanical valve,. I hope people who have been through similar will be along soon.
Hi, well here you go! As you know I have a tissue valve, went with what my surgeon thought was best. 4 years on and it’s been fine. Though I am older than you, and I do have a shelf life!
Starting your journey to your surgery is a bit scary! Remember it’s ok not anything like our imagination makes out. Have you had any scans before?
You know we are here for any information you need, and that shoulder to lean on.
Best wishes Pauline
Never had any scans before Pauline. Thanks so much for reading. My best friend says that she is somewhat relieved a decision has been taken x
Scans are ok did have a sedative for my angiogram but I was in hospital and I don’t remember being asked just went into my cannula. As your friend as said they have made the decision that it needs doing now, and you can start planning for having a mended heart, and you and your lovely sheep will be going great guns😂

Keep wheedling away. As I’m sure you have found out this site is a mine of useful information. I wish I had been made aware if it before my AVR. By the sounds of it I’m sure you will be fine with your upcoming tests. I was very lucky that I was very healthy prior to my op, and I found it very reassuring that after the full batch of tests all well well other than my aortic valve. I opted for a mechanical valve, quite simply because I didn’t fancy the thought of further surgery in years to come. Good luck with your progress.
