Edwards Inspiris Resilia valve

Hi all, wondering if there’s anyone had an Inspiris Resilia valve for a few years and if they have had any problems with it. Looking to have AVR end of October and think this may be my best option at 52 years of age.

Hi... If it lasts the claimed 25 years you will be 77 and maybe not so good physically. Check if any replacement could be done by a TAVI procedure as OHS would be best avoided if possible. If not my preference would be for mechanical. You can now get INR meters for home monitoring making Warfarin less of a chore. Good luck whatever you decide.

Thanks Michael, the Inspiris Resilia is designed so it can have valve in valve replacement

It’s a difficult call to make and still weighing up the pros and cons. 😉

Hello

I had replacement aortic valve in 2014 - which began to fail after 3 years - due to its small size I am told. I originally had bicuspid valve and am both female and quite small - so replacement valve was only 21mms. Had second replacement valve last summer and requested Inspiris as both famed for having long life and also suited for valve in valve replacement. This one is 23mms - my aorta enlarged with patch to accommodate larger valve. I was 67 yrs at time of second surgery. I have had no problems with this valve since, and I am likely to be in my 80s (please!) before it needs replacing, if the hype is to be believed.

The answer to your question is = no problems thus far. Its a tricky decision, and second OHS is no joke. I'd talk to as many people as possible and get all facts both positive and negative before making a decision - I was not asked which I wanted until the night before my op.

Good luck.

Thanks Francesw47, appreciate your feedback. I am a small female with bicuspid as well.

Was your first valve mechanical or tissue out of interest?

I will investigate as much as possible and feedback from fellow hearties is much appreciated. Best of luck with your new Inspiris valve. 😁

Hiya Sam I had the Inspiris resilia fitted 2 and half years ago and it's going well no leaks...........check with your surgeon but it has the ability to have a TAVI fitted if it fails

Hi MikeHitc, thanks for replying. I did check and it can have a TAVI if it fails. Op is scheduled for Halloween. Scary in more ways than usual, but will go with the Inspiris Resilia.

Thanks and take care

You'll be fine just get up and walking around as soon as possible after the operation ! There's no wrong decision. I'm surprised they didn't recommend a mechanical valve at your age though. I opted for the bovine valve as I was 38 and a second operation and didn't fancy long term warfarin usage !

Good luck

🤞🏻the Inspiris should last 25 years + then TAVI if needed. Plus things will have moved on by then.

Thanks for your best wishes. 🎃

Hi I also had resilia valve 2 years ago and doing well. Had it aged 40. Any questions please ask

Hi, had this valve fitted in early January and feel absolutely fantastic. Went with the resilia for lifestyle choice with a view to probable re-op on 20-25yrs. A totally personal choice but didn’t fancy warfarin for life and the clicking noise of a mechanical valve. Good luck with the procedure when it comes.

Hi, I also went for this one in the end in January. Feeling great and 🤞it lasts as long as expected. Things will have no doubt moved on by then in any case and there may be more less invasive options 😉. Glad to hear you are doing well.

Hi, how did your time in hospital go, how was your recovery from the procedure and how are you doing in your re-ab?My time in hospital went really well , felt washed out for a couple of days after the op then just got better and better day after day.

4 months after op and I’m sick running and training better than ever. Am 56 and feel great again.

Time in hospital was fine. Mostly felt weak to begin with but as you say it gets better each day. Pretty much back to normal fitness now. Walking and gardening are my main ways to keep fit and not having any problems. Occasional twinges around the wound that cardio rehab guy said was most likely the nerves fixing themselves. Looking forward to a

Looking forward to a good summer in the garden 👍

I had a narrowing Bicuspid Aortic valve and was pushed to have it replaced by the Cardiologist. I was asymptomatic and was leading a very normal health active life.

I had surgery in Feb 2021 at age 61. I was never given an opportunity to investigate which valve was going to be used despite repeated requests. I found out that I had a Edwards Inspiris resilia model 11600a about a month post surgery.

Since the surgery, I have constant chest pains, dizziness, lethargy, swollen calves and in one instance I nearly fainted while trying to conduct a repair that required some exertion.

As a comparison, I could routinely swim 32 metres (4 lengths) in our pool prior to surgery but at 12 months post surgery, my best achievement is 20 metres.

I can not directly attribute my degraded capacity to the valve alone but I am now running at 60% capacity and I am certainly symptomatic to diminished heart capacity immediately from the time of the surgical procedure. As I am now over 18 months post surgery, I do not anticipate some miraculous improvement. Now I feel like I have a heart problem whereas I did not before the operation.

Think long and hard because this surgery may not always be the pathway to the nirvana you seek. I would have taken a different path, given how this (has not) worked for me.

The alternative to replacement is not good either - 50% death rate in 2 years if severe AS is left untreated. Your symptoms post surgery are most likely be similar to those without surgery but hopefully without the insidious deterioration in them.

Hope you feel stronger soon, take care and don't push yourself so hard.

Sorry, I sent a reply but it disappeared

Your figures sound about right but I had been discussing a TAVI valve then I was bullied into the donkey valve with OHS.

I lost 6months of good health and now run at about 60% of my pre-op aerobic capacity.

I should have pushed harder for the TAVI.

My capacity to exercise is limited because of chest pains and at one stage I came close to passing out with total vision loss.

Scary stuff.

Thank for your encouragement though
