Are vit b12 injections painful?

I know this sounds a bit pathetic but I am quite anxious about but b12 injections. Are they painful? I am currently taking supplements prescribed by my doc but I think it will soon be suggested that I move to injections and the thought makes me nervous.

I have them quarterly and no more painful than say a tetanus injection. Over and done within seconds. No need to worry. I am sure you will be fine.

Stuart, just wondering if you have numbness in your feet and, if so, did injections help?

No numbness at all. My deficiency for B12 was discovered when I had a Stemi in 2016. Apparently one of my blood tests came back abnormal and following up it was decided my body couldn't absorb B12 tablets so decided on quarterly injections. Some have them more regular. But please, don't worry about them.

I’ve just had my initial 6 injections over 2 weeks. Like you I thought they were going to be painful. Not at all, stung for a second and that’s it. Had in upper arm

Yeah I didn’t know what was wrong,thought fatigue was heart failure related , so weepy and emotional but when hair started falling out realised it must be something else . Hope the injections make you feel better, I felt an improvement within days

I had started getting a pond and needles feeling in my feet and hands and it’s much better already

I was given a blood test when I went to doc because of tiredness, dizziness, numbness in feet. Prescribed supplement which I have been taking since 27 July but not made much difference, in fact I feel worse, although I have read that one might feel worse as the body begins to heal. Anyway, going for another blood test next week, think I will be told that injections are necessary.

B12 injections are as others have said really over quickly so if you do feel a little sting then it's gone before you can react

I have been having them for 15 years or so.

Infact since my B12 deficiency is due to Pernicious Anaemia I will need them for life.

Literally, for life because they are necessary for Life.

I suggest you might find the PAS forum on HU useful.

It is the Pernicious Anaemia Society but not everyone on the forum has PA.

There is such a wealth of knowledge there.

Hi...I have them every 8 weeks for the kast 6 years and look forward to them...as I feel better after...they only sting for a few seconds, I use to have iron injections..and they are painfull

Ok! You and everyone else who has replied to my post have really helped put me at ease, I am glad I found this site, it is helping me a lot, when I tell my family and friends I have a vit b 12 deficiency they don't understand how unpleasant and potentially serious it is but obviously fellow sufferers do so thanks again for the support.

They are fine hun. I've been having them every 3 months for the last 7 years. It just stings a little when the fluids going in. Don't worry x

They don’t sting but it all depends how good the nurse is that administers them. They can ache if they go into a muscle but nothing that you couldn’t bare - I have them every 3 months

The needle doesn't hurt but the liquid stings a bit, it doesn't last long though. The injections will help your symptoms a lot and quickly

No not at all. When I first got mine I wondered what all the fuss was. I think you need to have so many in one week and then quarterly after this. Good luck

In 2004 I was so i ll. Dr tried all tests and an endoscopy thought it was stomach cancer.endoscopy showed i was bleeding for stomach due to hear of taking(Brufen) painkillers for sciatica. Very cold all the time. Memoryloss. Falling asleep eveywhere. Numbness in hands andfeet. I was veryill. It damages bone marrow. I have one now every 10 weeks. It is hereditary soothe family members do have it. Don't miss it as you will feel the benefit. Good luck x x
