I had a Holter monitor on for a week. I then had an appointment for today for what I thought was for the results. When I got there the nurse said she was putting a 72 hour monitor on me. I was confused and said why another one. She just said sometimes they do put the 2 on. I thought perhaps they saw something on the first monitors data but it couldn’t be, because I got the text appointment for today before I had the first one fitted so no data would have been seen. Has anyone else had this done automatically?

Holter Monitor
I had a month long holter that started making noises at me after 2 days. Phoned the cardiac team who said not to worry, it’s fine - they told me it didn’t pick anything up, but I subsequently found out it hadn’t recorded at all past it making noises at me. I think the point I’m trying to make is that regardless of the why, it may turn out to be useful to you, and after 12 years of dealing with multiple specialities and spending lots of time in hospital for both myself and my daughter, you realise that on occasion, as wonderful as they generally are, the NHS quite often doesn’t know its bum from its elbow. Entirely possible the 72 hour was a mistake because someone didn’t realise something else had been organised: rather than tell you that, the nurse might have been trying to save face. Oddly enough, they don’t like to admit how disorganised things can be 👀
Thank you your reply makes perfect sense. You take for granted that because they are trained doctors and nurses they don’t make mistakes but of course they are human. Oh well got it on till Sunday may as well see it through and hope all is well. It was just that I got all psyched up for test results just to be given another one. Hope they eventually got to the bottom of your problems.
Best wishes
What Charlie said! But I also ended up having two. I developed AF after having my stents inserted and was on medication for a while to sort it out. My memory's a bit hazy, but if I remember correctly, after meds, an ECG looked fine, but the consultant said he'd like me to wear a Holter for 48 hours. After that was done, he said it looked OK, but he wanted me to have a 2-week Holter when I stopped taking the meds "just to make sure". He seemed to be absolutely certain the AF had disappeared before he discharged me and I think he was adopting a 'belt and braces' approach. Anyway, I was fine. BTW, I wasn't given the results when I went back to have the Holter removed; the nurse had to upload them onto my records and then the consultant analysed them, so don't worry if you don't get them straight away; it doesn't indicate anything sinister!
