I dip in and out here, normally when I feel like a bit of reassurance and post if I feel my experience could help someone else.
Quick recap, 42 year old fit but slightly overweight male, regular gym user on no meds with no family history had a HA at the start of March. Very much out of the blue. Had 4 stents fitted but was told main arteries all in good shape.
I followed the telephone advice of my cardiac rehab nurses and physio religiously, and made a number of lifestyle changes... mainly have a healthy breakfast and lunch, achieve with ease 5 a day, cut down processed meats, cut down butter, reduced alcohol intake. Still allow myself a little of each so I am far from the model of perfection, and although I have lost weight I would like to lose another stone or so. That may take a while.
I experienced some ectopic beats after two or three months which came and went, and were proven to be innocuous after a 48 hour tape reviewed by cardiologist - always worth getting checked.
On all the usual meds with little in the way of side effects, although still think daily about my HA and have regular battles with my mind over every niggle, twinge or tightness anywhere in my chest. Hopefully those feelings will wane over time but they are more than manageable.
The gyms remain closed here in Scotland but today I managed a private PT session with a friend, upper body weights, back exercises and short cardio sessions. The attached photo shows my heart rate and effort over the hour, almost 6 months post HA. I felt fine throughout, or at least the sore bits weren’t in my chest!!!!
Just thought I’d share this for those reading now who may be in a similar place to where I was 6 months ago. Take the advice, build up slowly and keep trying, few of us are able to live with a perfect diet and exercise regime. But trying is better than not. Take care folks.
