HR increase.. not exceedingly fast.. but fast for me.. went out earlier to put stuff in bin.. sudden onset of chest pain and broke into a sweat and dizzy.. seemed to go away after several minutes..probably’normal angina’ episode i thought.... but thing i noticed was a bit unusal.. my HR suddenly went up to 90 and for the next hour or so went from 78 up to 90 within seconds.. i know that’s not exceedingly high.. but during the day my normal resting HR is low 60’s.. which drops to low 50’s or mid 40’s in the evening.. anyone experience anything similar? thanks

With what you're describing? My answer is: Go to A&E now. Right now. If you are alone and have no-one close by to drive you, call for an ambulance - DO NOT DRIVE YOURSELF. Not joking.

Tell them what happened earlier today so they know to do bloods (to check if you've had a heart attack) and an ecg.

It may be nothing. It may be something. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Please update after you speak with 111. I suspect given the chest pain, dizziness and sweating, they will send an ambulance. I'm a little north of you (you're Central, I'm more NE up the glens) but all 111 is, in my experience, firm believers in 'better safe than...'.

111 experiencing high volume of calls..advising 20 min waiting time..into my 12th min now lol

If you don't get through at the half-hour mark I am begging you to get someone to drive you to A&E - the sooner they draw blood and do an ecg, the sooner a HA can be ruled out OR discovered and proper treatment started to prevent complications.

I was going to go offline but I'm going to leave my inbox open for updates.

Great update, and even better to read your cardiologist is being put in the loop and you're going to be fitted for a 24hr monitor. Did anyone at A&E give you stick for coming in, or (as I strongly suspect) were you told 'Better safe than...'?

no stick given lol... tod by nurses and docs that i did the right thing.. and should never hesitate with anything heart related

So glad you got to sleep in your own bed, hopefully they will get to the bottom of what is going on.

Have a relaxing day catch your breath after yesterday.

Best wishes Pauline

Hi there what should your heart rate be because I thought it could be between 60 and 100 and when I do my blood pressure my heart rate is often different measurements be nice to get some feedback on this

Smileyian profile image
Smileyian in reply to Darp

My HR always 48 - 55 daytime and as low as 42-45 during night since my Afib was ablated. We are all different but those rates seem good for me. Of course higher with exercise.

normal HR for me during the day is usually mid 60’s to low 70’s... it was going mad from 70 to 90 for an hour.. jumping rapidly.. which has never happened to me before.. evening HR for me is low 50’s to mid or low 40’s.. lowest ever was 39

60 to 100 is generally the “normal” resting heart rate however people have different readings on what’s normal for them! Best time to do it is in the morning before u get up to see what is your normal resting rate!

I agree with you but would caution people to speak with their doctors to get a personal estimate of HR. Above, a rate as low as 39 has been mentioned, this might be due to medications such as betablockers. This is why it’s important to know what would be considered normal for each individual.

Very well said! Years ago a cardiologist told me to keep a daily log, for 30 days, to establish a 'baseline'. Over the years my 'baseline' has changed especially now I'm on lowest dose beta blockers.

Knowing my 'baseline' has made a difference between 'Oh, that's alright then' and 'Oops, time to see the medics!'.

Not sure if this will help but I’ve bought an EKG monitor from Amazon £100. This was suggested by cardiologist which records any episodes for 30 seconds at a time and saves it to your ipad or iPhone or Android phone.
