As many of you will know I am withdrawing from bisoprolol now down to .5mg but have had prolonged palpitations for the last week. Is there anyone that has had this problem when reducing beta blockers?

Bisoprolol withdrawing.
Hiya, and I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble with this. I'm still on my 1.25mg every morning and have no problems with it but I keep reading your posts, and other people saying much the same as you and wish I had more to offer beyond (((HUGS))).
Thank you Sunnie
It really helps to know you are out there giving me support. My implantable loop recorder has picked up a lot of palpitations so my doctor has rang me and I have to go for an ECG this afternoon but I am sure it is only the bisoprolol withdrawal.
I'm glad to hear about the loop recorder and your ECG appointment - who knows but what it might finally be what convinces the doctor the withdrawal is causing your continued problem, or at least give some better insight as to what is going on with your heart.
Please update when you know something.
I was on 5mg Post stents, but because I was experiencing cold extremities my doctor reduced this to 2.5mg with good results. Some 8 years on this level the cardiologist suggested that because I had a heart rate in the low 50s I could stop the bisoprolol. The dose was reduced over 2 months and I stopped. After about 5 days, during which I walked out briskly, one evening my heart rate increased to over 120 beats per min. I had an ecg in A&E where everything was normal. They considered it was stopping the beta blocker and I am now on 1.25 mg daily. My heart rate can be as low as 48, but a resent ecg shows no abnormality. I do feel that perhaps I should have reduced the beta blocker more slowly to enable me to get used to not taking it. On the other hand, did I exercise too strenuously after stopping. Who knows? Sorry about the long winded story, but it does show, I hope, that one must take care when stopping beta blockers. Hope you get sorted soon.
Hi Starval
I am having to withdraw totally from bisoprolol as I was have very severe side effects even a suspected stroke which although it wasn’t the doctors agreed it was a severe reaction to bisoprolol. I am reducing very slowly as having withdrawal symptoms but yes every reduction I do my heart increases quite considerably for about two weeks and then stabilises and then after another few days I drop the dose again. I was also advised not to over exercise but gentle to moderate walking pace etc so allowIng the heart to readjust back to normal working without bisoprolol. I found this very good advice.
I hope all goes well for you. Yes, I do think my Over exercise had a lot to do with my fast heart rate in the evening. Take care.
It really is strange how Bisoprolol can cause such problems in some people and nothing in others. I can go up and down from 10mg to 7.5mg then back to 10mg without any problems. I think it is understanding why you are on a certain dose 1.5mg or 10mg. I do wish I could chat with a Cardiac Pharmacist to see what they are trying to do with Bisoprolol. We are all different with different Heart Conditions but a hell of a lot of us are on Bisoprolol !!!
Stay Well Stay Safe
I agree. I have a friend who just stopped 7.5mgs and never had any withdrawal symptoms at all I am just one of the unlucky ones but having been on bisoprolol buddies I found there are many who suffer even more withdrawals than myself.
I don’t think either the pharmacists or Cardiologist realise how many people do suffer withdrawal. I have been fortunate as my GP has seen some of my withdrawal symptoms and advised me to come down very very slowly.
I was taken off bisoprolol as my heart rate dropped to 42/43. It's now mid 50s
