Just found out I've got inherited lipoprotein a, bad cholesterol. I also have chronic kidney disease stage 3 and had half my thyroid removed 3 years ago, now on 100mcg Thyroxine daily. Doctors want me to take high dose Atorvastatin, I'm worried as since my hypothyroidism i have high Creatine Kinase levels. Will statins help? I am 60 and never smoked, or drank and I am usually active( I teach exercise). Any advise welcome, especially if you also have Lipoprotein a.

Hello,
You may find some in formation here in the link below:

When you say 733 what is the unit of measurement for "Lipoprotein a"
Did you get the test done with NHS?
What about your cholesterol and other lipid levels?
Do not stress yourself, take in easy.
I have elevated lp(a). Which is believed to be responsible for my atherosclerosis and my recent CTO. Any close relative has to be tested too. There is no treatment currently except to lower LDL below 2. This seems to prevent lp(a) from going around sticking LDL to the walls of vessels at its simplest explanation. Ironically high lp(a) has some inverse correlation to T2D. Sadly not in my case. My lipidologist thinks I might have a form of metabolic syndrome. On low carb diet and have got my HBA1C down 3 points but not quite back to normal. I’m on Letrozole for breast cancer which can skew the entire hormonal and endocrine systems.
