Ramipril Dosage

I'm on 5mg ramipril / day. My BP is normally approx 120/75 (heart rate mid 50s) so my doctor has recommended I stay at 5mg and not increase it.

I know doctors normally try and get you up to 10mg/day as long as you can tolerate it.

Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks

Hello gsw5700. Your heart rate from what I was told to work on is just fine. I was always told 120 to 140 over 60 to 80. So yours sounds great But I am not a Doctor If he is happy leaving you on 5mg. Alls better for you Providing your ok on them I took them for about 12 yrs. Take care Check with the doc if needed Brian

I agree with Bingo88, your blood pressure is well within acceptable limits, I am also on 5mg ramipril and have been for 2 years, my bp when I have it taken at gp's is normally about 130/80 with the ramipril

I have to agree with the others. If unconvinced then seek the opinion of your cardiologist. Being on the maximum dose is not tolerated by everyone.

Thanks all.

Spoke to the cardiology nurse today who is very good. She is going to inform the doctor that I still need to get as close to 10mg as I can whilst tolerating the dosage as there are other benefits, basically meaning your heart doesn't have to work so hard.

Seeing cardiologist on Thursday so will get his opinion.

Hi I am on 5mg also with similar stats. I seemed intolerant to higher dose as it made me feel ill when increased.
