Does anyone that takes Ramipril experience swollen mouth tight throat and overproduction of mucus from back of nose running down back of throat? I was increased to 7.5 mg from 5mg two weeks ago and feel like I’m choking.

Hello and welcome to the forum! As it is a weekend I suggest you talk with 111. It would not be appropriate for me to suggest anything else.

No I was on 10mg and noticed no side effects.

Please call Drs straight away or go to A&E if you still feel throat tightness or any of the symptoms you describe.

It’s rare but anaphylaxis allergy can happen with Ramipril even if you have been on it for a while. It can occur out of the blue.

I don’t want to worry you but this is a potentially dangerous situation and needs sorting out Immediately

Best wishes

S

I think that’s what was happening but was taking piriton thinking it was allergies( been going in almost three weeks) but it was getting worse and quite frightening my mouth was drying up and my lips starting to swell I had to stop my Ramipril last night and everything stopped.

Yes, ever since I've started it i feel I have a constant cold and sore throat. I was hoping it would go away after taking for a while but it hasnt. I also take bisoprolol which doesnt help matters. But I don't want to go to doc until all this virus has gone, they have enough to do at the moment. I can live with it but I don't like it. Lol.

STOP taking it today and ring 111.

I had to stop taking it from what I remember it made my post nasal drip (from sinuses) worse and gave me a persistent cough. Cant remember throat tightening but mucus and cough was very irritating - lost a lot of sleep.

Same, I stopped taking it last night as my lips and throat were restricting and it stopped!

Sounds like you had a full blown allergic reaction to it - good that you stopped. Best of luck on whatever med they try you on next.

Hello there. Since on rampiril I have noticed an overproduction of phlegm in my throat. Also a runny nose which could be this medication or one of the others that I take. It’s also worth bearing in mind that this could be part of the health condition (and of course we are all different) the foul tasting phlegm It’s bad enough to make sure that I clean my teeth first thing in the morning and have a good hike and spit to get rid of it. I also gargle with water and salt water to keep my throat in general good condition. Regarding your other complaints they might be best discussed with a member of the medical profession

I was taken off Ramipril, due to coughing which i hadn't noticed but my consultant did and he removed it from my regular meds instantly, sadly the damage was already done and I've been left with a hoarseness, cough and struggles with projecting voice since. (That's been over 6 years ago now).
