Amlodipine puffy legs

I’ve put a message on here before at some point but not sure I asked the right question.

I’ve had my amlodipine increased, my lower legs felt tight, now I’ve increased surprise!!!! It feels a bit worse.

Is this something that goes away after time once your body gets used to it or do I need to speak to someone.

I seem to get on with it ok, so would rather not try another one but just wanted to ask you what is your experience.

Here's what I said last time:

Amlodipine is a CCI (Calcium Channel Inhibitor). A fairly common side effect of these is odema to varying degree. I was prescribed a diuretic, Furosemide, to overcome this. Some time later after these had been stopped I was prescribed another CCI, Diltiazem, which did not cause odema.

Sorry for being a pain, and thank you 😊

Just remembered the first diuretic I was tried on was Indapamide. If the Amlodipine suits you a diuretic might be the solution.

Thanks for that, I’ll see what I can sort out if I can get an appointment this week 😃

I've been on amlodipine for around 15 months at 10mg at first and then 5mg.On 10mg my feet and ankles were very swollen but less so on 5mg.I still get it a bit by evening in my ankles but a lot less.It really depends on how badly it affects you.Could you have a chat with your GP?Email a picture if you like since phone consultations are all we get right now.Hope you get it sorted.

Hi I'm on 10mg as well, last year on holiday I noticed my anckles and feet swelling later in the day, I put it down to the heat! My GP said it was a side effect but suggested I try and live with it . This year whilst away I've had almost no reaction and my feet are fine. I assume I've got used to the medication, hope that helps and good luck

I was put on Amlodipine in 2017 prior to aortic valve replacement. My feet swelled quite a bit which was uncomfortable and I was told by one of the medical staff that it was quite a common reaction to this medication. After my op I mentioned this to my doctor who put me on Losartan - no problems with that at all.

Do tell your doctor who may be able to find something that suits you better.

Best wishes.

Amlodipine didnt like me at all. After one year I couldn't understand all the side effects. So I was switched to Ramipril which works differently. If you are getting side effects then I would not give amlodipine more than a year or so because it might cause permanent issues. I know its hard, but you really need to discuss with your GP. I am lead to believe that amlodipine is usually the first medication to try. But I have zero medical knowledge and we need expert advice on this issue.

Good luck

Attenuating Effects of Coenzyme Q10 and Amlodipine in Ulcerative Colitis Model in Rats

2015

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/257....

Results: Our results showed that administration of CoQ10, amlodipine and their combination decreased colon tissue malondialdehyde (MDA), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), myeloperoxidase (MPO) and heat shock protein (HSP70) levels induced by intracolonic injection of acetic acid and restored many of the colon structure in histological examination. On the other hand, they increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) colonic contents.

Hi Fluffybee et al, I take one 30mg Coenzyme Q-10 tablet ( available H&B ) twice a day. On having my amlodipine tablets increased my feet were a bit swollen and my legs became tired quite quickly. On taking Q10 over the past two years my feet are back to normal and the leg tiredness has gone. Also the effects of taking Simvastatin 20mg have completely disappeared, although this had a much slower affect.

Hubby was on Amlodipine following a quad bypass. He was given Furosemide (water tablet) to counteract swelling and fluid retention.

He was taken off both about 3 months after the bypass and put on Bisoprolol 1.25.

No swelling and text book blood pressure!!

Hope you get on OK xxx
